White Mughals (Ralph Fiennes' next directorial venture)

White Mughals is listed on Ralph Fiennes' IMDb page under the "Projects in Development" category.

The White Mughals IMDb page lists Ralph Fiennes as the director, Nick Drake (scriptwriter for Romulus My Father) and William Dalrymple (writer of the original book from which the movie will be adapted) as the writers and Frank Doelger (producer of Game of Thrones) as its producer.

I'm super, super excited about this movie. White Mughals is my favorite book, and Ralph Fiennes is my favorite actor. I loved Coriolanus and thought all the performances were fantastic. I'm sure with Ralph Fiennes directing, White Mughals will turn out to be just as awesome. Can't wait for it to finally get made! :)

Here's the synopsis of the book White Mughals, taken from its Amazon page:

"White Mughals is the romantic and ultimately tragic tale of a passionate love affair that crossed and transcended all the cultural, religious and political boundaries of its time.

James Achilles Kirkpatrick was the British Resident at the court of the Nizam of Hyderabad when in 1798 he glimpsed Khair-un-Nissa—'Most excellent among Women'—the great-niece of the Nizam's Prime Minister and a descendant of the Prophet. Kirkpatrick had gone out to India as an ambitious soldier in the army of the East India Company, eager to make his name in the conquest and subjection of the subcontinent. Instead, he fell in love with Khair and overcame many obstacles to marry her—not least of which was the fact that she was locked away in purdah and engaged to a local nobleman. Eventually, while remaining Resident, Kirkpatrick converted to Islam, and according to Indian sources even became a double-agent working for the Hyderabadis against the East India Company."

Cool to know that.
I'd be very excited to see Ralph again as romantic lead and better that he is directing, still I have to see the invisible woman which looks amazing.

Thanks Sarizonana, I'm super excited about this movie.
I loved the performances in Coriolanus (esp. the climax between Vanessa Redgraves, Ralph Fiennes and Jessica Chastain).
People are heaping praises on The Invisible Woman, saying Felicity Jones has given the performance of a lifetime and Joanna Scanlann was also brilliant as Charles Dicken's wife.
Looks like Ralph Fiennes is the kind of director who can extract the very best performances out of his actors.
Plus, I'm a huge Bollywood fan, so I can't wait to see what Ralph Fiennes does with White Mughals. I know that in his hands, it will turn out to be fabulous!

Can't wait to see The Invisible Woman, heard it's releasing in December.

I've never heard before of white Mugals and Sadly Coriolanus never came to my theaters in Mexico let's hope the invisible woman and white Mugals will.

Both sound incredibly exciting and yes the invisible woman was very well liked at TIFF so maybe it could many Oscar nods and probably a few wins.

Yes seems like he knows how direct his actors and discover new talents, at some point he Discovered Jessica Chastain and Felicity finally will be a household name because of Ralph just like he became when Spielberg cast him in SL.

So out of topic but I'd love to see the them working together again and if it's possible also with Ben Kingsley, Liam Neeson and young the actress who played Hellen in SL.

Yes, would love to see Ralph Fiennes work with Steven Spielberg, Ben Kingsley and Liam Neeson again. I think he and Liam Neeson especially make a fabulous pair. They're like brothers. :)

reply

They are really like brothers.
They truly became great friends after SL.
they already worked together in clash and wrath of the Titans but I want to see them in something more serious and if it's possible with Steven Spielberg again.

And maybe he should make them switch roles next time Liam as the Villain and Ralph as the hero, that would be interesting to watch and it's double eye candy for us.

Those two and Daniel Day Lewis are the sexiest actors in my opinion.

reply

Yup, Ralph Fiennes, Liam Neeson and Daniel Day Lewis should definitely act together in a movie, along woth Ben Kingsley. And directed by Stephen Spielberg. It'd be like the Avengers of Hollywood coming together!

Definitely, I don't know why Spielberg has taken so long to do this, it would be epic.

I would love Ben Kingsley to play Aristu Jah (the shrewd and wily Prime Minister of Hyderabad) in White Mughals. It's a very interesting character. He tries to manipulate and blackmail James Kirkpatrick but ultimately ends up helping him. They later become very close, and Aristu Jah calls Kirkpatrick "his son".

Ben Kingsley would be absolutely fabulous in the role and the chemistry between him and Ralph Fiennes would be amazing!
