One of many missing today...
Okay, I have to post this or I'll get manic. We need this lovely woman back on the silver screen. One can argue that she would not be a box office draw on the fact that, her last successful film was years ago, but who knows what the power behind such an ingredient would be? Look at Darryl Hannah in the "Kill Bill" franchise. Try Debra Winger in "Rachel Getting Married". How about Virginia Madsen in "Sideways" or Michelle Pfeiffer in "Stardust" and "Hairspray". These fabulous women are evergreens, and they would definitely attract attention, no matter what.
I was watching "A League Of Their Own" a while back, and I still find myself captivated by her compelling performance factor onscreen. Other films that measure up evenly are "Speechless", "Thelma and Louise", "The Fly", the obvious "Beetlejuice" and , for me, "Cutthroat Island". She is incredibly talented, and still quite beautiful. It pains me that she, and many of her peers from the 1980s and 90s are never around as they should be. So they have aged a bit. So what? The screen can still call for them, especially since independent films seem to get more attention than the mainstream these days. More and more older women are finding a niche in the business in the last 5 years or so, and Ms. Davis deserves to be one of them.
Yes, she is involved with other projects, and that is just about one of the best elements to her. She is a human, a person with more than celebrity. No denying that. I suppose I am selfish with this one. I long to see her grace the screen as if it were 1993 again. Those were the days. She gave so much to her roles, and the films, and we as spectators deserve to see that kind of talent and meaning again. I only pray she makes a nice comeback again, REAL SOON. Remember the dedication she put into "The Long Kiss Goodnight"?
Other actresses missing in action are JoBeth Williams, Madeleine Stowe, Helen Slater, Linda Hamilton, Daphne Zuniga, and Mia Sara. I would say Michelle Pfeiffer and Debra Winger, but they're kind of working again, perhaps not so frequent, but they are. Gosh, a film starring all the aforementioned would be quite difficult to make, but oh so appealing to those of us who remember the day when they ruled the Box Office
I'm livin' in desperate times. Bein' alive's my only crime...
