I've never seen a film she was in.

They always seemed kind of lame to me.

You're missing out. She was a very talented little kid. I probably saw all of her early movies. Heidi and The Little Princess are my favorites. I only watched one of her teen flicks.

reply

Your loss.

reply

Then you should widen your horizon. She was a talented little kid, and a good teen and young adult actress.

reply

I've seen many films from the 30s.

reply

But, by your own admission, no Shirley Temple movies. Try "Heidi". It's good.

reply

Depending what you think is lame?
Heidi is a great Shirley Temple movie, probably the best that
is not explicitly a Shirley Temple movie vehicle for her, it is her
playing a role, and it is almost cloyingly sweet and cute, but it
is really an excellent classic.

They always felt like manufactured films to try to make a star out of her rather than actually being good movies. Maybe it's because I've never seen any of her films on any "best of" lists.

reply

Most of them are good movies, in the sense of a "feel good" movie.
They just make you happy, like watching puppies or kittens. ;-)
Think of The Little Rascals.

reply

Well said.

reply

I've only watched The Little Princess. I'm not into her movies but she was adorable.

reply

I've always felt like her movies were just an attempt to make a little girl famous and not actually make a good movie.

reply

Yeah I just don't buy into the hype with her. She was a precious little thing but I can't get into her films. There are very few classics I actually enjoy but none of them are her films 😕
