Bette the witch?

___Just watched B.D. Hyman, Bette's daughter on YouTube talking about her mother.
___She claims Bette was into the occult, that she practiced wirchcraft. She says Bette would sit up in bed and she would have someone's piece of clothing where she would say incantations, then burn said clothing. That she did other practices, and named her Maine home witchway for a reason. She said she loved to gut fish and would even get them from the market that way, so she could have the pleasure of doing it while believing it was someone she hated. She would recite that person's name while she gutted the trout.
___Any thoughts Davis fans?

What B.D. Hyman said on that show was actually hilarious. True or not, I think it damaged her own reputation, and not her mother's.

reply

Bette herself many times admitted that she would gut fish out and mention the names of the people who did her dirt. She did in fact name one of her residences "Witch Way" because according to Davis, "a witch lived there." Bette had one god.....her career. That was what was most important to her and that is idolatry.

That's so true! But then, surely she must have known that would happen? Witchcraft is actually a pretty serious allegation in some ways, completely loony in others. How she expected to maintain any credibility spouting that rubbish is beyond me.

BD is nuts but yes, Bette was tough...but I don't believe she was a witch...just fought all of her life, like Joan Crawford

reply

I think the harsh truth about both women that neither group of fans can ever seem to grapple with, is that they both were fairly much bitches. Let's be honest. Joan didn't have too many enemies, but woe betide the poor sap who does find themselves on her blacklist. The same is true of Bette. They were crazy talented, but both had some ugly traits and, though they were fighters and fought the good fight to get where they were, they both had it in them to fight just for the hell of it. That's why Baby Jane was such a catfight. They're cats, and like cats, they occasionally play with their food. I wouldn't want to be raised by either of them!

However, do I support the claims made by either of their children - not so much. In both cases, it's laden with butthurt hyperbole and grudge-held malice. Screw that. Ain't nobody got time for that. We all have some crap in our lives, from our parents but it's a two way street and both Christina Crawford and BD were horrid c words for children.

___I guess that's pretty much how the general public views both of these woman. They really should have just stepped into a boxing ring. I'm not sure about Joan, but I think Bette enjoyed a good cat fight immensely. When you think of her animosity towards Joan, Faye Dunaway, and Miriam Hopkins I mean that's gutteral hatred. However, sometimes fun to watch as in nearly all of Baby Jane, or Bette giving Hopkins a thorough shaking.
___BD Hyman has her YouTube channel and she posts very regular. She obviously deeply believes what she says about the Bible and knows her subject matter. She is highly intelligent though thoroughly misguided in my opinion. What happened between her and her mother is tragic, yet she seems blithely unaware of this. In Joans case, I think she got what she deserved, finally.

reply

I guess she must be feeling pretty awful that although she accused her mother of the worst things, she wasn't as successful as Crawford's daughter and nobody gives a damn about her. Terribly vain, pretentious and spoiled woman BD is.

reply

She should have waited until her mother died to write the book. If her mother didn't leave her most of her money, then she could write the book.
