What's your favorite 80's movie? Why?

I can't stop rewatching the 1980 movie "My Bodyguard". It's available for free on Youtube now. There were so many awesome 80's movies. Some of the comedies were absolutely stupid. But I think the 80's were the last real great decade. When the 90's rolled around, things began to change. I think everything now suck's compared to back then. But, "My Bodyguard" I can't help but think, anyone should be able too relate to, as we've all been bullied at some point in our lives.

Transformations (1988)

it has everything i want in a 80s sci fi. chill vibe, spaceship story, love interest, succubus, alien sex, standard necessary nudity, and the lead babe being so fucking hot

80s is tough since theres lots of good stuff, particularly cheesy sci fi i like, but that would have to be my top. (pretty sure it's on tubi too). most of that decade comedy is not my jam, especially PG, so My Bodyguard would probably not have ever made to my watchlist, unless perhaps it had some sci fi, though. i definitely don't agree everything sucks now, BUT i do agree it was a great decade. i continue to watch a lot of 80s mixed in with all the other stuff!

Probably Star Wars ESB

Never ending story is also so nostalgic

Goodfellas. It takes you into that way of life in a way that's completely convincing and entertaining.

It came out in 1990.

Oh right. The 80s are tougher. Goodfellas is my favorite movie.

I'll go with Empire Strikes Back. Or maybe the Thing. I'm not sure, really. I'll get back to OP.

I can quote that movie extensively. The depiction of the school bullies was frighteningly realistic. I knew boys just like that (fortunately one was my cousin, so I was never a victim). It's one thing to cluck your tongue at them as an adult, but if you were young in that era, they were a real menace.

My two favorites were Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (1982) and Back to the Future (1985).

Some of my faves :

Breaker Morant
Paris, Texas
Edward Scissorhands
True Stories
Raising Arizona
The Vanishing
Stranger Than Paradise

Why ? Compelling, original/inventive, funny, insightful

Probably....

"Raging Bull"

As to the why....

Because it's outstanding. Everything about it was right. The casting, great script, phenomenal action scenes, good soundtrack, outstanding acting. Terrific director (Scorcese). I liked that he used black and white for this film - it added to it.

A robbery that "Ordinary People" beat it for Best Pic.

The movies that I remember most fondly from the '80s were the ones that we first recorded with our new VCR. It felt like magic. Sixteen Candles and Splash were among them.

And of course I liked Breakfast Club because you basically have to if you're Gen X.
