What did you watch on this first week of 2025? (12/29-01/04)
Happy new year!!
Thelma (2024 Bluray): If a bit uneventful, the movie sure was sweet and had some pretty funny moments. The cast was the best asset and the cinematography was good. They did the 93 year old woman playing the usual action tropes thing pretty well. The ending was satisfying too. My rating: 7/10
Late night with the devil (2024): The guy who did this movie is a genius. It consists of 1h10 minutes of very solid build up that could be done effortlessly and for cheap too. A neat 70’s TV set decor, a few good actors and there you go. After that we get 20 minutes of bonker-enough shit that makes the build up even more rewarding. My rating: 7.5/10
Strange darling (2024 Blu-ray): Cigarettes, rifles, cocaine, guns, K, cars, blood, Kyle Gallner with a moustache, sex and violence. It’s green, it’s blue, it’s red, it’s beautiful, it glues you to your seat and it showcases the most gloriously greasy breakfast recipe I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I was enthralled from start till finish and watched the end credits because of the song and notices Giovanni Ribisi was producer and director of photography in this gem. That made me even happier. Btw, the soundtrack by Z Berg was a 10/10. JT Mollner is definitely a force to be reckoned with, he’s 2/2 with me. If you like this review, watch the movie. If you didn’t like this review, watch the movie. Simple. My rating: 9/10

The baby boss (2017 Prime): I honestly didn’t expect to like this one as much as I did. It’s funny, sweet and fun. My kids and their friends had plenty of laughs too. My rating: 7/10
Bad boys: Ride or die (2024 Blu-ray): It’s still there guys! The chemistry, the humour, the action, the violence, the drama, the family matters… it’s all still there. They managed to make the recipe work once more which makes this one of the best action franchise imo. This last entry made me feel good, happy and might be the most entertaining, action-packed popcorn movie I’ve seen this year. My rating: 8/10
(Bad boys: 8
Bad boys 2: 7
Bad boys 4 life: 7.5)
Judgment night (1993 TV): Right on top of my head, I can’t think of a movie that assembled a better cast for the good guys versus the bad guys. I mean, good guys: Estevez, Gooding Jr, Dorff and Piven. Bad guys: Leary and Greene. Just wow. With a cast like this you don’t even need a story, just one big chase from starts to finish. The settings, lighting and camera work were very good too. I’m pretty sure I had seen it when I was young, but totally forgot about it. My rating: 7/10
The hitcher (1986 TV): I recently saw the remake so when I had the opportunity to watch the original, I sure did. I think it does have better aspects but also, lower points. Better: cinematography, acting, action. Worst: script and dialogue. I found that there was less nonsense with the remake but they are both enjoyable. My rating: 6.5/10
Come play (2020 TV): I wanted to watch this because of Gillian Jacobs but the movie was boring and even she couldn’t save it. My rating: 4.5/10
Finding Dory (2016 Blu-ray): I don’t like animated fish films but Nemo being the exception, I was in the lookout for this one an finally found an affordable copy. It was not as entertaining or powerful as Nemo but it was alright. My rating: 6.5/10
Frozen (2010 Prime): I guess I couldn’t ask for much more considering the simple plot but it was not very entertaining. My rating: 5.5/10
Terror train (1980 Prime): I liked the vibe of this one. The kids partying with the cool costumes, the train workers working on the train and the killer killing people. It was fun. My rating: 6.5/10
The winter’s bone (2010 DVD): Impressed. I was overall impressed by this movie. It’s a good, cold and captivating story showcasing stunning performances. My rating: 7.5/10
The cutting edge (1992 Prime): Upbeat, feel-good and romantic story that balanced out with the previous flick. A bit cheesy but still good. My rating: 6.5/10
