Are you a "re-gifter"?

Like that "Seinfeld" episode. It's when you receive a gift but then give it to someone else under the false pretense you bought it for them.

What made you want to frame the question in such a deceptive fashion rather than as an act of frugality or even consideration?

For instance, say you received a new dining set that you thought would be better appreciated by a friend or relative. What does it matter that you bequeathed it to someone who might be able to better appreciate it?

These days of the year my wife frequently comes home from the bridge club having won a basket full of stuff in a tournament where half of that we don't want or don't like, i.e. we don't drink any alcohol.
We always use that stuff as xmas presents to friends and family, been doing that for decades and so far nobody complained, after all it's something you give them as a gift and where you got it doesn't change that.

Yes.

reply

NOPE...I HAVE NEVER DONE THAT.

reply

I can honestly say No. I feel like people who re-gift are hard to please

The only re-gifting I ever remember doing was as a wedding present for a couple who had not been particularly nice to us and I wasn't dying to spend much money on them. We gave them a set of sheets that we had been given for our own wedding that had never been opened and was still in its original packaging, but that was kind of frilly and I didn't like.

reply

No. I think it's lame.

I will just give something I don't want or need to someone but not as a gift.

While we're on topic, who wants my velvet nude painting of Kowalski?
