Your Christmas tree specifications

If you put up a Christmas tree I would like to hear your responses to the following questions, please.

1. Do you enjoy putting ornaments on your Christmas tree?

Me: Growing up I loved decorating the Christmas tree. These days it becomes tedious due to having an attention span of a gnat. Thankfully Mr. fourlemons still loves putting ornaments on the tree or ours would probably be bare.

2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree?

Me: White these days, although I grew up with multicolored lights and that is what my parents still have. Also, our current tree is pre-lit. Nothing brings a couple closer to divorce than trying to put Christmas lights on a tree.

3. Yes or no to tinsel?

Me: No, though I'm not against it. We used tinsel a few times growing up.

4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads?

Me: No, though I think they can be pretty. I'm just too lazy to do it.

5. Is your tree real or artificial?

Me: Artificial unfortunately. Real trees make my allergies go nuts. I used to love going to pick out a Christmas tree until I realized it was the tree making me sick every Christmas.

1. So while I have the attention span of a gnat, you have the attention span of, um, what has a longer attention span than a gnat?
2. I think multicolored lights are retro in a particularly awesome way. I don't judge their use.
3. I have no further commentary on this one.
4. I have no idea what you mean by this but I'm afraid to ask.
5. Your response implies that there are different grades of fake. If it's just as fake as some lesser form of physical interaction, say, making out, does that mean that some of the limbs are fake and some are real?

1. In quickly-spoken, lisp-afflicted Spanish that would be pronounced "donuts". You wouldn't know that though since you speak JapaKoreanese.
2 and 3. We shall retire these numbers now.
4. Ah yes, Mardi Gras beads. Now wouldn't that be a silly thing to put on a tree?
5. I was afraid to click on that link but I did. I was much looking forward to a scientific discussion of the direct correlation between physical intimacy and the reality of trees but I'll respect your Asian heritage.

Yes! That's exactly what we have. It has made Christmas decorating so much easier.

My husband does fluff out the branches since he has the patience to do such things. I'd be fine just leaving it how it looks right out of the box. More natural, you know. Sort of the post-hailstorm look.

Yes. I will be doing this on December 1, not before. November, especially before Thanksgiving Day, is too early for Christmas decorations. Doing this cheapens and trivializes what should be a special time of year.

2. Do you prefer white lights or multicolored lights on your tree?

Multicolored lights.

3. Yes or no to tinsel?

I have a tinsel garland. I don't use the individual strands.

4. Yes or no to strings of popcorn or beads?

No. Too tedious and messy. I wouldn't want stale popcorn on the tree, either.

5. Is your tree real or artificial?

Artificial. I've heard that Christmas tree lots are over-priced. I have an artificial tree that I paid for once and am getting years of usage out of it. It's better for the environment because it saves real trees.

Save the holiday season.

We usually put up our tree on the Friday or Saturday after Thanksgiving. My sons are grown and out of the house with one of them living out of town, so we put up the tree while they're still here for Thanksgiving. I like for my kids to be part of the Christmas decorating process. Growing up though, my family did not put up our tree until December and I understand your stance.

Yep, us too. Thanksgiving and fall stuff goes into the back cellar storage and Christmas comes up all day on Friday and Saturday morning. I’d like to run out for a few hour deer hunt Saturday afternoon so fingers crossed🤞

Yes - it’s a daddy/daughter team effort. We collect baubles from all over the world when we travel.

I think it's very sweet that decorating the tree is a daddy-daughter activity in your house. I love your snowflake tree topper. It makes me wish I had asked people in this thread what their tree toppers were. Ours is a star similar to this one.

1. I hate it. I love ornaments, but I'm too much of a perfectionist. It just takes forever.

2. White lights

3. Yes.

4. Definitely no to popcorn. Only beads for the small tree outside.

5. Real. Preferably a spruce. (I believe the Nordmann fir is a good alternative if you have allergies?)

My husband is a perfectionist when it comes to putting up ornaments, too. His mother is, as well, which is where he got it from. It takes him forevvvvvvver to get the tree decorated. But I don't complain because at least he's doing it for me. 😂

I hadn't thought about trying a different variety of tree but now that we've already got our nice prelit artificial one I guess I'll just stick with that one.

1. Yes. All my decorations are personal in some way. No designer balls are or anything impersonal allowed. :)

2. Multicolored. There's enough snow and ice outside

3. No to tinsel strands, but I do have tinsel garland for the sparkle

4. No. Too much effort

5. Artificial. If they had had the trees that you can like rent, and then they replant them earlier in my life I may have considered a real tree. I just don't like the idea of cutting down a tree for a few weeks and then chucking it.

Many of our decorations are personal in some way, too, and those are my favorites. Several are ones that my boys made in school growing up or that were personal gifts from friends. Those are the best. 😊 And despite the fact that I'm not crazy about putting the ornaments on the tree, there are a few favorites that I do insist putting on the tree myself. In fact with a couple of them, if someone beat me to the punch I'd probably take them back off the tree and then put them back on. 😂

Related to "real or artificial" I see your point, but I think it depends on the fact if you know where the tree has been planted (in a legal plantation for this purpose) and you know that later the tree will be delivered to a zoo or will use (at least partially) as a mulch or fertiliser.

Most of the ones here end up in the landfill, or I guess now the compost heap. I like the sustainable rentals where it's a potted tree which gets used year after year until it is too big and then it gets planted.

2. On the Christmas tree we use white lights.
3.We have several, it is ok for me.
4. No, I did not know that there is such a thing.
5. It is a natural one, from the region. In about 2 1/2 weeks I will buy it.

One nice thing about having a real tree is how good it makes the house smell. You are lucky to be able to enjoy that.

Good point about tinsel and cats. We have a cat and she might find it far too interesting if we used it. Plus tinsel on an artificial tree just doesn't seem like a great idea. You'd have to take it back off every year or leave it there and let it get all crumpled up and neither option sounds great.
