Just curious - how many use YouTube to watch movies? (Website, not channel).

After watching a few older movies on YouTube and then popping over here, I was wondering how many use the website to watch movies? Many older and obscure ones are there and oftentimes without commercials but I don't see it mentioned often as a good platform for programs.

reply

I do not. I like MMA and boxing clips on YOUTUBE, but no movies.

Also, I like YT for music on my headphones.

reply

I watch older movies on there every once in awhile but not regularly.

reply

Rarely. About 1 a year. They're usually the silent era films.

reply

Never.

VERY RARELY...IF A MOVIE IS TRICKY TO FIND ELSEWHERE MAYBE.

From the responses, I'm pretty surprised more don't use YouTube for movies and programs. YouTube is like a hidden, untapped source for so many movies. I'll use Plex to do most searches for programs and movies (it searches Hoopla and Kanopy, too - two other free resources for movies and programs), and if it doesn't show up there, I'll try YouTube, and often times they will be there and especially, older film noir movies and movies not as popular as the big blockbusters, like slasher/horror flicks from the 60s,70s, and 80s.

Not only that, the algorithm for finding similar titles isn't too bad, either. I watched this one crime flick, The Touch of Flesh, from the 60s that had a beatnik-hip and lurid vibe to it and after watching it, three or four others similar to this genre that I had never heard of popped up. And all without commercials.

It is especially good for us cheap ones.

reply

All the time. You can find many obscure movies through Youtube.

reply

Only as a last resort for a movie I can't find anywhere else because the quality sucks; way too much compression.
