Rate my rating systems please

Here I am once again, questioning my rating system for movies and asking for your opinion. You might be thinking. “Hey, if this Stonekeeper guy really thinks his rating system has any importance whatsoever on the surface of earth, well he’s wrong?” To this I would reply “Well, it depends on the perspective because from where I sit, it’s very important!”

And then to this you could reply “ But Stonekeeper you’re crazy, can’t you see that…” But then I would interrupt and say…Aaargh, I’m done kidding away. Let’s be serious about this. This is my life we’re talking about.

Which of these two rating systems do you prefer, A (my previous system) or B (my current system)?

A (Edited after reading comments below):
10: Masterpiece/Favourite

9:
Most excellent
8: Very good

7: Good
6: Above average
5: Average

4: Below average

3: Bad

2: Very bad

1: Terrible

B:
10: Masterpiece/Favourite

9.5: Near Masterpiece
9: Absolutely Outstanding
8.5: Most Excellent

8: Great

7.5: Very good
7: Good

6.5: Pretty good

6: Fine/Fun

5.5: Average

5: Below average
4.5: Mediocre
4: Bad
3: Very bad
2: Pure rubbish

1: Dreadfully Abysmal and insulting/Not even worth watching

What I don’t like about my system rating A is the fact that 7 doesn’t really sound like a “very good” to me.

I have a sub question:

Put in a few words how you would describe those two ratings:
6/10
7/10

Thanks

reply

I think rating system B is better because it’s clearer and more detailed.

For your sub question:

6/10 is watchable, usually just decent or fine.
7/10 is pretty good and worth watching and recommending.

reply

I like B.

You could simplify and do:

Would never watch again. (WNWA)
Might watch again. (MWA)
Will watch again. (WWA)

I'm a big fan of Ws.

reply

I prefer A to B just for the simplicity, but I'd remove either Average or Mediocre - since they mean the same thing to me - and put Good at 6. I also would likely replace Decent with Above Average or Almost Good because decent and good are interchangeable words to me as well.

reply

Ok, I hear ya. But if 6 is good that what is 7 for you?

Very good?

reply

Yeah, if it's above good it's very good. Good can mean, wow that was good or it can mean oh, it was good but just good, so very good definitively leans towards the wow that was good side.

reply

for a curious side....

where does a BAD movie that you love fit? Crap like STARCRASH, when, truthfully the film is junk, but it is fun to take it in? So bad its good, sort of thing. What kind of number rating can that get?

reply

Like I told sslssg, I rate movies with my heart, not my head. For example, I rated VelociPastor and Wolfcop 7/10. I also rated Good Will Hunting and Vertigo 7/10.

reply

roger, that makes sense

reply

MANNEQUIN GETS A 10/10....HEART OVER HEAD EVERYTIME.

reply

Mine like that would be Bio-dome.

I cannot not give it 10/10 because it’s the movie I saw the most in my youth. Over 30 times.

It currently has a rating of 4.4/10

reply

HOUSE IS 10/10 FOR ME AS WELL..WE WATCHED IT..WE ALL KNOW IT'S A 7/10 MAYBE...BUT IT IS LITERALLY A PART OF ME NOW...ALI AND I JUST ORDERED HOUSE:TWO STORIES ARROW BLU-RAY SET....SO FUCKING STOKED!@!@

reply

You've shared one of these rating systems before, it may have been the second one. In any event they are similar and I think either is a fair and good system.

reply

Firstly, I try to avoid presenting my opinion as objective fact, so mine goes something like:

10: Near-flawless, often groundbreaking in some way, imo
9: Absolutely loved it, just not quite 10-worthy
8: Loved it
7: Liked it a lot
6: Liked it
5: Ambivalent about it
4: Meh. Lacking in some way
3: Oof. Did not like, but not completely unwatchable
2: Awful, but had one or two things I didn't hate
1: Fuck outta here with that

[edit] OT: I lean more towards your first.

reply

I like your system too. It talks to me.

Btw, interested in joining MovieClub?

reply

Thanks! I try to make it a point to check out what you guys are viewing each weekend, but the stars haven't aligned yet, alas, but they will..

reply

1 to 10 is sufficient.
No point putting .5s in

Both systems are far superior to the "out of 4" system that i could barely believe my eyes when i found out some critics were using.

reply

With your user name I feel like you sort of have to make a presence in the MovieChat MovieClub.

No?

reply

your 9pm showing would be 3am for me :D
And sadly weekends are very busy with the gf - i watch weird old movies weekdays

But i really need to see Dog Soldiers again , its been a couple decades!

reply

Aww shoot…

Oh, well, there’s always the option of watching them on your own time and sharing reviews on my weekly thread but I understand.
