Any of your family or friends done jail time
My brother has just been sentenced to 7 years for his part in a drug conspiracy.
He's served three years already and gets out February 22nd next year.

A friend was sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit, the DA who prosecuted him was later disbarred for a habit of faking evidence, and my friend's conviction was overturned.
God knows what kind of trauma he endured while incarcerated, but he totally turned his life around when he got out. Sobered up, established a new career, had a family. Became the very model of a hard-working and honest citizen.
Jail and prison are different.
Jail is local, city or county, and is usually short term for misdemeanors. If one is sentenced to prison they usually do a short stint in jail before being shipped off to The Big House.
Prison is state or federal, and for felonies.
Prison is actually more comfortable. Big city jails are chaotic.
