THE CONJURING SEEMS OUT OF PLACE...BUT THAT IS A SOLID LIST...ABSOLUTE SOLID LIST.
shareSolid list. I actually liked the first Conjuring; solid 7/10 imo.
My list will likely be boring. Even my top 25 horror list doesn’t have too many obscurities. Also qualifying “favorite” as movies I can enjoy over and over. Anyhoo:
The Exorcist (1973)
The Thing (1982)
The Wicker Man (1973)
Shaun of the Dead (2004)
An American Werewolf in London (1981)
Damn, I love The Wicker Man (1973). The second Howie gets off the plane you know he’s never leaving. Woodward was phenomenal and you can tell Christopher Lee had a good time in his role. That school house scene is my favorite. Definitely in my top 25.
shareFunny, my top three were easy, but numbers four and five could have been filled by any number of films. I wanna say Lee has stated in interviews that this was his favorite film he was in, and that man was freaking prolific!
I’ve said it before: a big part of effective horror for me is a convincing portrayal of fear, and Woodward convinced me with his “O Lord!”
One of my favorite things the extended cuts of the film added were the scenes showing how truly devout a Christian Sgt. Howie was, thus how abhorrent those heathen Pagans must have appeared to him, not to mention making the point he was a virgin, which adds weight to Willow’s seduction scene and the whole “thing.” :D
