I hate sports, but what soccer needs is smaller fields and more scoring.

reply

i agree with this. i always thought the field is much too big.

reply

yeah all sports suck really. I wish gladiator combat was still a thing. now that would be a sport worth watching ⚔️

Your comment remind me a scene from The Simpsons:

Forget all of the other players, the huge field and all of the flopping shenanigans, just have two nets on an average suburban driveway and two goalies kicking to score…soccer would be way better then!

reply

They used to show indoor soccer leagues on tv, but I haven't seen that for many years. That was more exciting with a lot more scoring because the ball would not go out of bounds because their was a wall surrounding the field.

reply

That's just dumb goaltending and an extremely rare type of goal. All of the ridiculous flopping really makes the game hard to watch. Also, get rid of ties. Make them play with less players to open the field.

reply

Still better than anything to come out of the NFL.

reply

Seems like American football is just an excuse to drink beer and eat snacks. I don't believe anyone actually watches the game with that many interruptions.

reply

That is why we record it and watch on the DVR.
So thankful to the inventor of that!

reply

It's like someone saw Rugby and tried to find out a way how to make a similar sport but shttier.

reply

When there's actually some action, I think it can be pretty entertaining.

Also, what's the point of the try after a touchdown? Just to get some extra points on the scoreboard? Touchdowns should be one point and that's it.

reply

I don't get it either. It's like saying, "hey, do you wanna add some tax on your touchdown"?

reply

I get it that one will cheer and appreciate the sports from their country.

What I don't get is 2 things of those who come from a country where their sport is soccer.
1) Their arrogance and their refusal to understand that Americans like football because it is what we have and grow up with.
2) How they grew up with what to me is a boring sport.
What is it that makes soccer exciting to you when it mostly is just kicking a ball around on such a big field?
The goal is the most exciting part but that happens once every 40 years.
Even though it is non stop action, it is slow action.
How does one get into that?

reply

It's the beautiful passes. One of the reason why I prefer the low scoring is that the payoff of the goal is more exciting. This is why I haven't watched basketball in over 20 years. What's so great about getting multiple baskets in every minute. It loses its impact if it happens so often.

reply

I don't understand why hockey and basketball is not more popular than football in America when those first two have nonstop action through the game.

For NFL, and I have timed this using a stopwatch, it all adds up to about 10 minutes of action for a three hour broadcast for what is supposed to be a one hour game.

reply

I can't stand football. I think it's the worst sport. And I'm including darts.

reply

To you.
Not to us who grew up with it.

reply

Lol, sweetie, it's YOUR arrogance that bothers us. Example:

"How they grew up with what to me is a boring sport."

Uhm, because "it is what we have"??? It's obviously not boring to us.

We don't care about you having a different favourite sport, you seem to have a lot of them anyway.

reply

FIFA should have canceled the sport after that goal. Just end it.

reply

soccer players have no hand-eye coordination

reply

THE BEST SPORT EVER IS WAITING TO BE BORN...SAME SIZE FIELD...SAME RULES...EXCEPT...FULL CONTACT.

reply

Football/soccer is beautiful just as it is. It is the great global team sport. Every nation, poor or rich, can yield a decent side.

reply

it's relatively cheap to play.

reply

That it's relatively cheap to play is a good reason why it's so popular around the world, especially in smaller, poorer countries. At least, that's what I think. I do enjoy seeing how it brings a country's citizens together during the World Cup.
