Do you believe in the afterlife?

Do you think there is such a thing as heaven? Where we will get together with our loved ones, like Valhalla for the vikings where they get together with fallen warriors to drink mead together in the Great Hall. Or that there is an ultimate source like a giant ball of energy ( God ) , where once we die we turn into energy and merge with it, to be reborn again without any memory of our previous life. Or do you think once we die it's just lights out, ride is over. I'm curious what you guys think. If you have something smart to say, just save it. I'm not interested in troll type answers.

I believe there is more than this life...but I can't define what it is. I was raised as christian but could never accept the simplistic nature of religion even as a young child. So religion is not for me. I guess I just think it's more complicated and kind of beyond our understanding ..and we are meant to wonder and search for meaning.

The notion that this is all there is makes me feel that life would be meaningless. And I don't believe that.
But in the end we all should follow what works for us and accept the same for others without judging. I don't believe anyone is punished for not towing the company line.

As a teen I was very suicidal and the only thing that eventually cured me was this realization that no matter what we do we can never really cease to be. So my belief wasn't based on what I wished to be true but what I believed to be true.

I don't believe it but I like the concept. Far too many people got ripped off in this life due to no fault of their own. It's nice to think that there's something waiting somewhere for them that can't be exploited by common shitbags. But I'd be surprised if there was anything at all.

I think that when you die, your brain dies. When your brain dies, your consciousness disappears. Like a program running in RAM on a computer, as soon as it looses power it ceases to exist. The difference is that there is no hard drive that can get you back into RAM.
I do have a fantasy though; It would be cool if when you die you could relive your life as many times as you want. You would be able to "wake up" at any moment in your life and make different choices, and take many different paths. You do this for as long as you want until you live a life that you're satisfied with. Once that happens you get to choose whether you should cease to exist; End the game so to speak.

That kind of reminds me of the main character in the novel "Slaughterhouse 5" being "un-stuck in time".

You are right, it is kind of similar. Slaughterhouse 5 is a great book. Love Kurt Vonnegut.

Yes it was! One of my favorites!

I think it highly unlikely, but I can't rule it out completely, I suppose. So I'll just go listen to Afterlife by Avenged 7x and not worry about it.
