Would you feel burned if your workplace did not give you a card or gift on your last day?
Especially if you worked there for a long period of time?

Put it the rear-view mirror and it eventually disappears. They gave me a paycheck - I worked. We don’t owe one another a damn thing.
I fully expect to walk out the door with no fanfair whatsoever when I retire.
shareI've had some jobs where being able to quit was a gift in itself.
I view the workplace as a necessary evil. I'm only there because I have bills to pay. It's just a job, not my life; the two are separate. If I were self-employed that would be a different story; then it would be a career and an integral part of my life. When you work for someone else you are looked upon as merely a "cog in the machine," something to be used up and thrown away once you are deemed no longer needed. Like paper towels.
The farewell ritual is a formality and there is nothing sincere about it. So I couldn't care less if they gave me anything.
