Best opening scene of a movie ?

Twitter poll going on.
Jaws seems the heavy favorite.

My sentimental choice is The Sound of Music. Iconic.

I like most of the 007 pre-credit action sequences.

The first time I saw a James Bond movie I may have been about 10 years old, it was on HBO. I turned it off after the initial action scene and thought ‘that was really good but very short!’

Kids are dummies😆!

Great example.
This scene sets up one of the greatest characters in American movies.

The Don: ‘Why didn’t you come to me before going to the police?’ is a great line. Don Vito doesn’t want any bodies washing up on the Long Island beaches with his name possibly attached so instead he orders a few leg-breakers to do what they do. In 5 minutes we understand who and what this man is, it’s a brilliant scene.

Someone on Twitter pointed out that the opening and closing scenes are both staged in that dark office, with the blinds tilted open just to let in a touch of light. Never zoned in on that symmetry before. In both scenes, the capos kiss the ring of the Godfathers Vito and then Michael. Brilliant story arc that ends up right where it started. A neverending cycle of greed, deception and violence.

Some greats there but man it’s tough to top Goodfellas.

I may be crazy but I don’t think there’s a single scene in that entire movie that isn’t entertaining and perfectly staged and acted.

‘Foot?’

‘Hoof…yeah hoof.’

I always like the narrative that starts with the map in Casablanca.

The camerawork is amazing.

I had thought of this one. It's a single take that runs almost four minutes.
