a movie you knocked off your watchlist

Pork Chop Hill (1959) - a good Korean War movie even though some of the actors were too old.

Zack Snyder's Justice League

I am not much of a Superhero movie fan, nor Snyder fan (although, interestingly, I consider Watchmen to be brilliant). I also had never seen the theatrical version of Justice League, so can't say whether this DC was the massive improvement everyone seems to claim it is. But honestly, I was totally unimpressed.

Overlong, tedious, even confusing at times. The film takes four hours to get basically nowhere. Tacking on that pointless 30-minute epilogue was a particularly egregious mistake by Snyder.

While there are several impressive sequences throughout the movie, even those were often tarnished by an overreliance on overblown CGI.

Really, the whole thing felt more like a rough assembly cut rather than a finished product.

I rate it a generous 5/10.

proabably watched that one in 82 or 83, use to go to my cousins who had all the movie channels, probably the place where my love for movies began

Woodstock (1970)

I watched the director's cut in its entirety.

There were a lot of great musical performances. I would likely pick The Who and Joe Cocker's performances as favourite moments along with the skinny dipping sequence because it captures the spirit of Woodstock.

Check out a mesmerized Mama Cass in the audience near the end of this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1zFnyEe3nE

Tokyo Story (1953) - good drama and very sad.

Finally got to see The Last Voyage of the Demeter recently during a free preview of Paramount+ in my cable package. Granted, Dracula appeared to be a bit over the top at times, but overall, I thought it had an adequately creepy vibe and I liked it.

reply

the first movie to cover his voyage in detail, i do believe.

reply

Yeah, interesting perspective, from the captain's log. I read Stoker's Dracula as a teenager and barely remember that.

So, have you seen it and what did you think of it if you did?

reply

i liked the setting and the atmosphere. i agree with you on dracula being over the top. he's a tough character to do.

reply

I thought the teeth were overdone. My understanding of his appearance is that it was a combination of CGI and a live actor.

This is the Dracula that creeped me out as a kid: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTbY0BgIRMk
