I'm kinda mad that my generation is into binge watching

As though a show should be consumed in huge quantities. Some say "watched a season over the weekend".

Spread it out!

One thing I'm actually envious of, my parents got to share the excitement of a new episode with their friends all in real time, talk about it together the next day.

Can't really do that anymore.

I tried 'binge watching', but it's not enjoyable. It feels more like a chore. I should enjoy what I'm watching. Sounds like I'm the same generation as your parents. I enjoy the wait, to discuss and anticipate.

Yeah like "I gotta get through another show first", people make it sound like a checklist.

reply

...which is no different from what it was years ago. Instead of a checklist, it was more of an appointment: "Oh, I can't hang out today, they cast [Name of the Show] Tuesdays in TV".

reply

Maybe impoverished people with no PVR.

reply

Some are, some aren't.

It's nice to have the option tho.

I find some shows work well when binged but others get very repetitive and start to feel like an effort. I suspect binge watching exposes the flaws in a series that when watched week by week seem fresh and original.

reply

I don't usually want to binge on a TV show like that.
But I don't normally watch TV shows in "real time" anymore either.
As I suffer from pains in my back and neck, I prefer to stream on my tablet and watch TV lying down.
And I can take breaks when I want to as well, which is great.

I sometimes binge watch and enjoy it. Growing up in Australia during the 70s and 80s it was difficult to ever watch a whole season of anything due to time changes and spa even being dropped entirely by the network screening the show.

So I'll embrace the future on this one.

reply

i could not imagine waiting a week for a new episode of a series.

reply

Or missing an episode because you had business

I know someone who saw an entire season of "24" over a weekend. I was there when he rented it and dropped him off at the video store to return it. Did he even have time to eat?
