Oh no my friend. A doughnut is not just a doughnut, and a donut is certainly not a doughnut. We have a local place here called Doughnut Party, and those are amazing doughnuts. Premade donuts that you get in any of these chains are disgusting. I do not like coffee at all, but I know a lot of people who think that even McDonald's has better coffee than Timmies. They used to be good, but the quality of their food has just really tanked. I used to eat there a couple of times a month when I went out for lunch, but last few times were just not good at all. I guess when they don't actually make anything in the store anymore, it really makes a difference. I think that most fast food places are absolute crap these days. I think that the only reason why Timmies is still in business is that Canadians feel like it's their store and buy their crap out of some sort of Canadian loyalty.
i agree that the quality has dropped since they centralized everything. when you're driving long distances in canada, tim's is like an oasis. that's one of the reasons they are popular.
I understand that. It's like Boston Pizza in western Canada. I've just discovered that driving long distances across Canada, small towns that still have their own bakeries and coffee shops are a treat. Dive diners are fantastic too. I was in Blairmore in this summer, and my friend wanted to see if we could find a starbucks, but I found us the breakfast place called the Cozy Corner Cafe. It's in a hotel and looked kinda sketchy, but man, their breakfasts were amazing. I heard the coffee was really good too. I know a lot of people will stick to the status quo, but I like finding the gems.
Let me take a guess... Tim Hortons took a downturn in quality beginning sometime around 2014? I've read messages on various sites from Canadian posters who say Tim's coffee is now watered down and the doughnuts are no longer fresh.
That was the year that Tim Horton's was acquired by Burger King, another place whose quality of food and service have been declining since the 1990s. Coincidence? I don't think so.
I agree with you... find and patronize a family-owned restaurant or a small local chain. They're still out there. If people would support their small businesses these giant corporate garbage chains wouldn't be able to move in and replace good food with their processed slop.
