How can a streaming service not have the rights to their own original content?

The streaming service is Paramount+ and the content is episode 2 of The Stand. Here is a email they sent me explaining why. https://mail.yahoo.com/mb/folders/1/messages/AF7he3Yed0vdYbalzQS68ACEwBI?.src=ym&reason=myc&showImages=false&offset=0

All I get when I click on this link is a login screen. What username and password do I use?

reply

It’s a trap!!

reply

I'll just copy and paste the relevant text of the email. Thank you for contacting Paramount+. We’re sorry you’re unable to The stand Episode 2. Apologize for the inconvenience this has caused. Due to streaming or show rights or licensing restrictions the Stand episode 2 is not available to stream.

the other episodes are available?

reply

Yes.

reply

that is unusual.

reply

The rights may have been licensed to another service, making them temporarily unavailable there.

reply

They have sold the license. It's like if you made a t-shirt but then you sell it. Now you can't wear it yourself eventhough you're the original creator.
