How far a drive was your video store?
Mine was 8 minutes growing up. Not bad if you're in the mood for a movie, a real pain in the ass if you realise you have a video to return and you're not getting anything out.

shareGary's Video was about a mile and a half away, I'd walk there after work on summer evenings. It was a nice independent store with a good selection and pleasant ambiance, they'd save me copies of tapes I wanted to buy, when they wanted to sell off last month's new releases.
Google Play just doesn't have that kind of personal, local touch.
12 blocks as a kid, 2 blocks away as an adult.
shareWe were lucky enough to have two within easy walking distance after classes during High School (both of which had a Chinese take out and Pizza place on the same block...fun times!)
shareAbout half an hour.
shareI lived in various places during the video store boom but everywhere I've lived a video store was no longer than say a mile away.
shareWhen I was a kid it was about a 15 min walk or 5 min drive. That was before they had weekly's where you could rent 10 films for $10 for the week. I never really thought about the hassle of returning them but I would now given streaming etc has made everything so much easier.
shareYeah returning is a pain when you have no desire to get anything out.
