shareWell, I don't think he can compain that he didn't live a long life.
shareYeah, 99 years is a good run.
It's hard to not like someone who said things like these:
"If I were reincarnated I would wish to be returned to Earth as a killer virus to lower human population levels."
"When a man opens a car door for his wife, it's either a new car or a new wife."
"People think there's a rigid class system here, but dukes have been known to marry chorus girls. Some have even married Americans."
Yes, he had some great moments.
share"Cannibalism is a radical but realistic solution to the problem of overpopulation".
"If it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane, and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it."
"It’s a pleasure to be in a country that isn’t ruled by its people."
"Do you still throw spears at each other?" (When addressing Australian Aboriginies)
"I don't care what kind it is, just get me a beer."
Someone compiled his quotes and published a book of them: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1846240697/
I bought that several years ago. It was pretty good, as I recall, but I've mislaid it somewhere. I've got literally hundreds of books packed away in closets and such, not organized in any particular order. It's around here somewhere.
"I don't care what kind it is, just get me a beer."
Actually, he may have stolen that one from me.
It's a shame he didn't make it to 100. He missed out on a phone call from the Queen.
shareHe had a long life and was one of the more interesting royals. I feel sorry for the queen - he was probably the only person that she could speak frankly with and now he's gone.
shareThe Queen's cousin/husband. One more who just happened to die right after getting the Covid Vaccine.
shareHe just happened to die because he was 2 months short of his 100th B' Day and had been in poor health for several months - the vaccine had nothing to do with it.
shareVery true that he has not been in the best of health recently. I wasn't really surprised to hear of his passing.
shareHe got vaxxed in January. He was admitted to the hospital in February and never recovered. Hank Aaron and the many others who just happened to die are all just a coincidence? I've got a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you!
shareHe was treated for an infection and a pre-existing heart condition.
God almighty - I'm so sick and tired of all of you anti-vaxxers, conspiracy theorists, and other misguided individuals who continue to perpetuate doubt and distrust of multiple vaccines that have proven to be effective in the fight against Covid.
Stop with the BS and start being part of the solution, not the problem.
Yeah, it's quite ridiculous. He also just happened to die within a month of a full moon. Yeesh!
shareWait! What? Full Moons are a thing now?
shareWhy not? An argument that a 99 year old man with a heart condition died because of a vaccination he recently received is bizarre. That sort of "logic" ranks right up there with arguing that 99% of serial killers drank milk as infants and only 2% drank whiskey, so if you don't want your newborn to grow up to be the next Ted Bundy you should put Jack Daniel's in its baby bottle.
shareIn 1995 he asked a Scottish driving instructor, “How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to pass the test?”
he liked taking the piss
a lot of nitwits didn't get that, took it all too seriously. RIP you tough old bird
i can't find the exact quote, & this may be apocryphal, but supposedly when he was going through customs in australia (they still had to do the formality, even for royals), he was asked by the customs officer if he had a criminal record, and he answered 'why? is it still a requirement here?'
i hope that's true. it's a great line.
edit...if i'd taken a moment to read, i'd have seen someone posted the story already.
Quite a shock.....and also not a shock at the same time.
It’s such a shame that he didn’t hit 100 years old this year and they couldn’t celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary next year 😕
I liked the fact he didn’t care what anyone thought about the things he said.
shareI saw this one yesterday,
On arriving for a tour of Australia with the Queen he was asked by a slightly over-zealous immigration officer whether or not he had a criminal record.
"I didn't know it was still a requirement" he replied.
RIP
That's a great line
shareI was reading some of his more memorable comments yesterday and was laughing so hard - they are priceless.
