I disliked him after he said what he said about a potential replacement.
share> I disliked him after he said what he said about a potential replacement.
What was it he said?
"I don't think my replacement should look like me"
He was replying to a comment about game show hosts almost all being white males
He should have said, "that's Sony's call, not mine," and left it at that. Funny thing is, as of now it looks like Ken Jennings has the job.
shareI was under the impression that Ken was interim.
shareThat's what they're saying, that he's a "guest" host and there will be others. But Jennings has also had some producer credit on the show for a while -- "consulting producer" or something like that. That's why I'm inferring that he's got the fast track. I'm guessing that his upcoming appearances are labelled as interim or guest just so Sony can yank him without losing face if he bombs with the audience. But I suspect if the audience likes him and the ratings hold, we won't see any other interim hosts, he'll just have the job permanently.
shareBut he was perfect and quite frankly no one should replace him. The show should’ve ended with him.
shareYeah, I can go with this. I'm willing to see who they replace him with but I likely won't care for them. I know I'm not bothering with the Ken Jennings bullshit. That guy is an asshole.

I kinda like the guy, but my father would agree with you. He'd rather see James Holzhauer get the gig. I can't agree with him; Holzhauer strikes me as a little creepy. I'll be generous and assume JH just never became quite comfortable in front of a TV camera and his "creepiness" is only nervousness. I can understand that -- I did a guest spot on a local TV show a long time ago. I was told to smile, be pleasant, et cetera. When I saw the tape later I found that I had been grinning like an insane lunatic. Some people just shouldn't be on television.
Whoever it is, I'm sure they'll lose some viewers.
Yeah, no one will be good enough to replace Alex for some people.
And as for being on TV, I can only imagine. I'd likely freeze up the second I know the cameras went live.
> I'd likely freeze up the second I know the cameras went live.
I was living in DC at the time. My appearance was for a state lottery drawing. At a certain time each day the local TV station would do the drawing live. It was the sort of thing where numbered ping pong balls are blown around in a big tank and withdrawing a little sliding barrier allows a ball to pop out. The host was a recent Miss Maryland, and she did all the talking. Each time they'd have some ordinary schmuck as a guest, and that person pulled the sliders when Miss Maryland said to. That day it was my turn. So that's all I did, pulled a few sliders and *tried* to smile in a natural and relaxed sort of way.
When we watched the tape later my friend said -- quite accurately -- that I looked like I had a live electric cattle prod jammed up my ass and was trying to cover up the pain by grinning. Guys are very supportive of each other that way.
I liked James, but he doesn't have the voice or stage presence for it. Ken is an ass so I hope he's not permanent. Brad Rutter would be a better fit for host. I also liked Alex Jacobs and Buzzy Cohen, but I don't think they'll be in the running. Austin Rogers could be fun choice, too. I hope Pat Sajak is one of the guest hosts for a week or so.
shareOn November 2, 2020, it was reported that ABC had ordered the game show "The Chase", to series for a nine-episode run, with Sara Haines of ABC's daytime talk show "The View" as host and Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, and Brad Rutter each rotating as the Chaser. The revival is set to premiere on January 7, 2021. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Chase_(American_game_show)
Ken Jennings has been working on a Game Show Network show since 2019, originally called Best Ever Trivia Show. The name was changed to Master Minds on April 6, 2020 with Brooke Burns as the new host. Jennings is one of five rotating smart people that contestants have to beat. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Master_Minds_(game_show)#Production
Brooke Burns has plenty of game show hosting experience, in games that move quickly. But ABC did not hire her for the prime time version of The Chase.
