I remember when the WII came out. Time leading up to Christmas, you could not find them anywhere. Day after Christmas, we walked into Toys R Us and there were twenty of them sitting on display.

shareNot anymore. They pretty much stopped doing that because they know people are willing to pay more. Even the old PS4s are still $300 after all these years.
shareThe price may not drop, but they'll eventually make better offers. For the same price you'll get one game + one extra controller, or 3 games. Or even a new model may be launched.

I always rushed out for the new consoles, but then realize you're stuck with a tiny library of games for months until they start dropping.
Right now, I'm probably a year behind on games. The other plus side is, all of the games that are still new to me are insanely cheap and on sale constantly.
I won't need a PS5 until next Christmas, and by then there will be a nice load of games and most probably half the price they were at release. Its likely the console will have dropped in price a bit too.
Wise plan. Will try to impart that wisdom on my kid. Wish me luck.
