I'll always love the beach. I'm a bonifed beach bum, even though I grew up far inland. I love being able to bond with the ocean or sea. I like all water. I much prefer clear water.

(heck, I don't claim this is relevant or even a cogent statement, but it sounds cool to say. ymmv)
I suggest that you don’t come to ‘Sunny’ Bournemouth.

shareI'm usually stuck inland, so beaches are a treat for me...when I get the chance to go. The best beach I ever visited and swam at was at Carlsbad, CA. I dream of having a home by the ocean, even though that feels impossible.
There is one beach in California that I would advise everyone to avoid, and that's in Oceanside. Last time we went, it was an absolute craphole! There were Indian people everywhere, milling about in herds like human cattle with their gigantic families, there was garbage all over the beach, what few seashells we could find were in pieces, and the icing on the cake was going into the bathrooms and finding they were so disgusting that you'd need a tetanus shot just from looking at it! To make matters worse, the only bathrooms available over in town were all pay toilets, which I find to be very cruel when someone desperately needs to pee and has no spare change in their pockets.
Always a ray of sunshine. I'll bet your Dad just loves walking the dog with you.
shareHave you ever watched "Bondi Rescue?" I have watched quite a few episodes and I'm always amazed at how many people, who've never even seen an ocean before and who can't swim, go into the water on some kind of floatation device and get into trouble. They pay no attention to warning signs about riptides, which results in them having to be saved. Language is often a barrier, but sheesh! I guess they just don't think about what kind of danger the ocean can be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
shareI learned the trick to swimming in the ocean, and it's so simple, a kid can understand it :) Never go higher in the water than your chest. A fun game I would play in the ocean with my cousins was get in the water, go as deep as is safe, and then jump whenever a wave comes. My only real complaint for the better California beaches was that I still had to kick kelp out of the way that had washed up on shore.
I've also been to the beach in Wisconsin, along the western shores of Lake Michigan. The water isn't as active as the Pacific ocean, but it sure is cold! In the summer, the sands of the beach are very hot, and the water still retains the cold of winter, without the ice. I had to put on a T-shirt over my swimsuit so I could even get in!
I don't like sand
It's course and rough and it gets everywhere
"Stealing the beach" is the amount of sand you take home in the crack of your butt.

I like night and snow which is the exact opposite image of what people think about the beach. Every time I've been, I've never liked it. It's like you go there and figure out what to do to pass the time.
