If there were ever too many patients needing hospital treatment, where would they go if the hospital was at capacity? What other buildings would possibly suffice as a makeshift hospital? Could a hotel be a option? Because I'm reading in the news that many hospitals are near capacity and the ICU's are full.

Any large space would be utilised I suppose - sports halls, conference spaces etc.

shareAs others have said, temporary field hospitals are a possibility. Hotels? Maybe. But large, open spaces would work better, I think -- football stadiums, for example. Easier to move medical equipment in, and things could be arranged just the way the doctors and nurses needed it.
But if the number of patients still overwhelms the system, I think the next step will have to be a heartless triage. Ration care away from those who are least likely to benefit and/or have the least to gain. All other things being equal, favor a seventy year old over an eighty year old; saving the eighty year old will likely only extend his life by a few years, whereas saving the seventy year old's could postpone her death by over a decade. All other things being equal, favor a patient with pre-existing diabetes over another who has pre-existing diabetes and heart disease.
They would most likely call in the military and set up combat style hospitals in tents etc in parks and open spaces.

Doctors choose who lives and who dies.
I personally think they should choose according to their behavior towards the whole pandemic. There are people literally in the ICU with IV's hooked to them. And STILL have the audacity to say Covid is fake, only kills 2% of the population, and that everything should open back up.
This sounds cruel and unusual, but anyone who had the nerve to say that, I'd yank their tubes right out their throats and tops their dead bodies out on the curb. Is save my equipment for caring, loving, and hardworking people who actually care about others.
