Why living in California sucks right now....

Sure you have amazing weather year round and you have the mountains, sunshine, snow, and the beaches and of course Disneyland too but, we have a very controlling governor, fires are EVERYWHERE in the state with extremely BAD air quality and prices for homes and apartments (even condos) are through the roof and waaayyyy overpriced. I know a ton of people are trying to leave the state because they are tired being controlled and barely have the money to afford anything....

It's what happens when unchecked leftists run the state into the ground. Sadly California is the model the Democrats want for the rest of the country.

You forgot the 24/7/365 ridiculous traffic and perpetually unhappy, miserable, unfriendly people. I left 15 years ago and it was the best move I ever made. The Left Coast is self destructing.

Not sure about the most unfriendly people part though, I've lived my life in either California, Ohio or Indiana and my neighbors in Socal were easily the nicest and thoughtful.

Indiana is easily less friendly.

Key word, "were". Yes, people were friendly. I visit friends and family, usually once a year and now what I see is people that do everything they can to avoid eye contact but if they do, they won't return a friendly nod or a smile. Of course not everyone is like that but for the most part, people seem withdrawn and unhappy.

Ive lived in CA for over 40 yrs and I have seen a trend toward less friendly but it is still pretty friendly depending on what city you are in. The crime-ridden cities suck and are as you say. I wonder if there is similar erosion in other states. I say hello to all people whom I come across in public (other than stores, of course) and I get acknowledgement from more than half. Even on my neighborhood night-walks, I get friendly response from strangers when I come floating out of the darkness with a "good evening."

The biggest problem is the politics and the lack of grasp of consequences. CA is beautiful but it will explode eventually at this rate.

California is overrated. People who want to move there, thinking it's some sort of paradise, have been watching too many programs like Baywatch.

He constantly is closing down businesses and lots of small business owners are losing money, their jobs and suicide rates here are through the roof. For a while during the pandemic shut down, we were not allowed to visit people in other counties for months; anyone caught visiting another county, was fined over $1000. During this whole pandemic also, there are cops all over the mall; if you are caught without a mask, you will be fined over $100; the fine could be as much as $250. Beaches are closed down, Disneyland is closed until further notice, restaurants currently are only for outdoor seating. Also at almost every place you work at, the governor wants you to fill out a survey stating whether or not you have coronavirus symptoms; you have to do this every day. These are just a few examples; it sucks living here right now... 😞

Unfortunately, when there is a pandemic drastic measures must be taken. Countries in Europe and Asia took similar precautions and managed to get things under control. The U.S. dragged its feet and now tops the list for the number of cases worldwide.

The 1918 pandemic consisted of three waves, so don't be surprised if there are multiple waves of COVID-19. Signs of a second wave are beginning to appear in Europe. The U.S. is still in its first wave, and will most likely go right into the second wave with no respite in between.

I'm willing to make sacrifices if it means a quicker end to COVID-19. But this will never happen until the entire country gets on the same page.

I have lived in CA since age 5. Costa Mesa, then West Covina, and now Palm Springs. It truly is gorgeous. Mountains and the best beaches both within a few hours drive. It is a slice of paradise.

Politically though, smh. We have had decades of stage-one thinkers in charge and it shows in our deficits hidden behind the buffer of whatever new "for-the-children" tax gets voted on (Californians vote yes on every single fucking tax). Legislation here is always about garnering votes and never about fixing age old problems.

Remember when Schwarzenegger became gov here? Say what you will about him but here is the skinny on that embarrassing scenario. With CA suffering from devastating budget deficits and teetering on bankruptcy, he ran on three big problem solving platforms. Three tough measures that would, in theory, fix CA's financial woes. The people voted him in. Immediately he put those three things up for vote. The people who voted him in voted "no" on all three things. No one even listened to him. They just wanted the Terminator in office. From that moment on, Arnold seemed to lose his mind. Totally changed. The dude is crazy now or was always crazy and stopped caring about hiding it after that nonsense. California is like Greece.

Yep. Those winners started that right on the other side of the mountain from me. Looked like London fog with a red dot in the sky here the last few days. Today is nearly perfect, though.
