Movies you found deceiving.

I just finished watching "Play Misty for Me". The cover of the film takes it look like it's some all out horror fest. Even the tagline sounds like it's going to be a murder spree. It's a thriller but a very tame one. What movies do you find have decepted you?

reply

I just recently watched Murder Rock (1984). Since this one came after Lucio Fulci horror films like The Beyond (1981) and City of the Living Dead (1980) I was certainly thinking Murder Rock would be another Fulci grizzly horror film with a rock and roll score - none of that. Instead itโ€™s a quite tame who done it / giallo with horrible early 80โ€™s disco / aerobics music. Search out a trailer and check it out. ๐Ÿ˜€

I thought I clicked on the wrong trailer.

I saw Naked Lunch, and I can tell you at least two inaccurate things about that title.

reply

It was a dinner and the dinner itself wasn't naked?

Big fan of Nathan.

Frogs (1972) I saw this film when I was a little kid and according to the movie poster there were giant frogs eating people. There were no giant frogs in this movie.

reply

That's just a flat-out lie.

reply

From IMDb's trivia section for this movie.

Because the film's poster art depicts a human hand hanging out of a huge frog's mouth, viewers often assume the film is about giant man-eating frogs, rather than swamp wildlife on the rampage.

You always have the giant frogs quest in Konosuba ๐Ÿ˜„

Another Earth (2011)

The movie poster made it look like it was going to be a well made high budget Sci-Fi film about an earth in a parallel universe. But it was just a lame arse boring film made on the cheap and it looked like all of it took place on this earth. False advertising !

reply

I remember the hype of this movie and people saying they were disappointed.

reply

Yeah, definitely remember Another Earth being completely bland. A lot of sci-fi seems to turn out worse than the trailer makes it out to be, like Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets.

reply

i actually like that movie quite a bit, though i haven't seen it since it was released. fits in well with the spate of low budget sci-fi/indie drama hybrids we've seen in the past few years like coherence & the one i love.

ANY FILM WHICH TURNS OUT AT THE END TO HAVE BEEN A DREAM,NIGHTMARE,CRAZY PERSONS VERSION,HOAX,ETC...

Like The Last Jedi! ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm going to guess that the cover is a marketing ploy. I'd call it more of a suspense thriller rather than horror. It spooked me the first time I saw it, but compared to what we see today, it's a bit lame. Or is that tame??

reply

The cover looks like something out of a Hitchcock movie. At least the one on IMDb does. I was expecting some blood bath and I didn't even get the sense that it was even that much of a thriller.

reply

I remember seeing the trailer for the new world (2005) and it looked like it was an exciting action flick, it was extremely slow. Nice to look at though.

Max Payne (2008)

No spoilers - I felt conned.
