Future planes will have no landing strips

They'll be like helicopters. Maybe Drone planes but jumbo size. Takeoff/Landing is the most dangerous aspect of contemporary airplane flight. Though accidents still happen to helicopters, still, i feel, removing takeoff/landing from new generation airplanes will make avian flight of humans that is unnatural safer a little bit.

How then will take off be then? No propellers. Vertical jet propulsion for take off and landing. Horizontal jet propulsion for horizontal travel.

reply

I envision it to be at first like those horizontal fan looking things as we’ve seen in movies or tv plenty. Down the road if we ever invent gravity repulsive technology, we won’t even need the fan gizmos.

reply

It's sad we're still stuck in primitive times because airline companies won't develop and produce postmodern planes now because they are lazy and hence we see so many accidents happening because of primitive plane design. I hope these companies fail so better startups come up that develop futuristic planes now instead of in the future.

reply

Some have adjustable propellers which turn into jet rotors once the craft is airborne. There are tons of experimental VTOL and STOVL videos on youtube. Lots of interesting concepts out there but most are still in the concept/research phase. A few are in development phase.

reply

Someone in another forum says fuel jet rotors or propulsion will be costly to operate hence they're not considered for takeoff and landing. Nuclear propulsion says i, but that will be more dangerous.

BUMP!

Perhaps in the distant future.....

reply

Yes, in the future.

Distant future.

It can be made possible now. Do you know that "UFOs" are advanced tech'd aircrafts designed in the forenow by the previous generation that is kept hidden from the general public and some people are tested as they are shown visualizations.

reply

Yes, of course.

reply

So why not make those 'UFOs' available for general public use by commercializing them via Boeing and other such companies? Probably because they don't want rival countries to plagiarize their models.

reply

Sounds like a plan to me.

reply

As long as they don't get rid of chicken strips.

reply

That's what they said about Brazilian waxes, but everything comes around.

reply

I’m actually a big fan of landing strips. 😀

To be honest with you, it would work better if we happened to be in the Man Zone:

I like how he had WWII smg’s in the gun rack.

THAT WAS MY FIRST THOUGHT TOO.

The aircraft that can do this are called VTOL (vertical take off and landing. These aim to combine the take off/landing of helicopters with the speed and long distance travel capabilities of jets) and STOVL (short take off and landing. These require a little bit of runway but much less than airplanes).

reply

Thank you for that. Let me delve deeper by researching.
