What will most likely destroy humanity?

3. Global warming
4. Asteroid hitting earth
5. Alien invasion
6. The next World War
7. Other (specify)

reply

7. Dysentery epidemic contracted from the giant panda.

reply

Hubris.

reply

Good choice.

reply

Seems to be the common denominator in a lot of our struggles.

reply

Like, for good? That's gonna take an asteroid. But over-population is going to destroy current civilization. We're just one food crisis away from this world tearing itself apart. Too many people to feed and the supply lines are very fragile and prone to numerous disasters, many quite out of our control.

reply

Yes, for good. I've always felt it's going to be an asteroid too. One just passed us by 2 days ago. I'm surprised we've went as long as we have without it happening already.

reply

Frankly, I think we'd survive an asteroid just fine. We already have vast underground bases. If the planet was destroyed, I think you'd find a surprising faction of hollow earth humanity spring from the ashes. The thing is, once we got done evolving from the wreckage, we wouldn't really be human anymore. Just like dinosaurs are birds now. So in effect, yes, I think an asteroid would do it.

reply

I think that is pretty cool actually that if an asteroid hits us we grow wings like the dinosaurs did? I don't really know about evolution because I didn't study it in school but that is actually really awesome to know.

reply

Most probably overpopulation will lead to a lack of resources and the catastrophic hygienic conditions in some places will promote the emergence of new lethal diseases.

reply

Nothing - at least for a very long time. Regardless of the calamity, I think there will always be pockets of survivors.

reply

If there is a deadly virus that's airborne, I don't think there will be man pockets of survivors. All it takes is for someone to open the door to their house to get infected.

reply

There will always be people who have enough resources to go into bunkers for a rather long time. I guarantee you that governments have contingency plans for leaders and VIP's for almost all disasters including a bio weapon, or just one naturally occurring.

reply

Humans

reply

Currently, humans are to blame for a lot of things, but I don't think it will be our demise unless some dictator lets a nuclear bomb loose.

reply

I am much less optimistic than you.

reply

I'm guessing either an asteroid or climate change will do us in.

reply

The machines will rise up against us!!

reply

EMP devices will do the trick.

reply

People will still survive that - a lot will die and we will go back to the horse and buggy era, but that won't totally destroy mankind.

reply

All will fall to the self-replicating nanobot hivemind!!
(in the voice of James Earl Jones)

reply

asteroid

reply

I agree.

reply

Climate change, I think.

reply

I think that's very possible. I wouldn't be surprised if we can't lave our houses without wearing some special suit in 100 years time. Thankfully I won't be around... or will I?

reply

Rising temperatures leading to coastal floods, more frequent hurricanes, wild fires, crop failures, death of biodiversity and rise of invasive species....
