Do you usually say "excuse me"?

You have people who almost always say it, and people who almost never say it.

For me, it might depend on where I'm at.
I seem to rarely say it at a hardware store.

This makes me think it comes down to gender.
I think I'm much more likely to say it if I'm passing by a dame, rather than a man.

reply

I say it all the time.

reply

I'm in the south so of course.

reply

Same here. It’s common courtesy in the South.

reply

As a Texan, I'm as South as it gets.
It's not particularly common here, especially among men.

reply

Texas is not really "the south" though. Not in the context of how it's being used here. Think Georgia, the Carolinas, Tennessee.

reply

I've read that parts of Texas pass for the deep South. It should be all of it, though. Is Texas not the southmost state in the U.S.?

reply

As a person who was born and raised in "The South" believe me, we don't consider Texas "The South". I don't make the rules. I'm sure Texas is a fine state, but any state that considers beef "BBQ" doesn't qualify. I am in no way making a value judgement here.

reply

I live right next door in Louisiana and I think most people here don’t consider Texas a traditional southern state.

reply

LA. is an interesting state. I've never been.

reply

Not without a good reason.

reply

Nothing wrong with good manners.

reply

A lot of times at work when people say it i'm not sure if it's excuse me can you move for me or excuse me I have a question.

reply

Good point. If they have a question, they should just say your name instead.

reply

When do you say this? I only say "pardon me" when someone is in my way and completely oblivious.

reply

When they're looking at something to buy, and I need to pass by their field of vision.
If they're facing in my direction, I tend not to.

reply

I frequently say 'Excuse me, Pardon me or I'm sorry, just passing through...'

Good manners are very important

reply

I go by what I'm given.

reply

Well that's fair, good manners go out the window when the other guy is a huge jerk

reply

A "dame"? Easy there, Bogart.

As to the question, I am a very courteous person and will use "excuse me" or "pardon me" if the situation comes anywhere close to warranting it.

reply

he's a fan of film noir.

reply

'Dame' lol...everyone knows the proper term is 'Broad'😬

reply

Exactly!

reply

ARE WE NOT USING 'BITCHES' ANYMORE? I DIDNT GET THE MEMO.

reply

I think the babes prefer 'chicks'

reply

LMAO...I ACTUALLY USE THAT ONE A LOT...DUE IN PART TO THAT ACTUALLY BEING THE FAMILY NAME.
