Too Many People by Paul McCartney from the Ram album 1971. Letting it all hang out.

nice.
i can remember hearing that song for the first time - it was covered by a local band i saw opening for john cale when i was 17. they were terrible, but i really liked this one song they played, and was humming it at university the following day. some random guy complimented me on knowing this fairly obscure kinks song, which is how i found out that this terrible band hadn't managed to write one decent track, but was in fact doing a cover.

lets hear your favorite.?

reply

well, i posted a stones song earlier, but i'm happy to try to think of another one.

one of my favourite beach boys songs is 'a day in the life of a tree.' it's completely sappy and i guess a little silly, but every time i hear it, i get completely swept up.

funny story - it was actually sung by the beach boys' manager, because brian thought he sounded like a tree. and he kinda does...

France by Grateful Dead..."According to Grateful Dead guitarist Bob Weir, this may be the worst song the Grateful Dead ever recorded...The rest of the band must have agreed, because 'France' was never performed live...Rolling Stone included the song in their "Terrible Songs by Great Artists" list, calling it 'yacht rock.'"

Well I like yacht rock and I always liked the song - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrQCVgOWqMo

I can see why it has never been played live. 😊

"United Artists wanted to use "City to City" as the lead single from the album, but Rafferty felt that "Baker Street" would be a better choice and eventually the latter song became the first single in most countries"

Rafferty was probably right.

Yes!

He opened his show with this when I saw him in '88.

reply

That’s awesome I wish I’d seen him in concert, especially in 88 when he was in his prime. You’re lucky!

reply

absolutely. i did a lot of silly things when i was a teen/young adult in the 80s, but traveling i don't know how many hours by bus to see prince at his peak was one of the smart things.

reply

Love Prince.
