Shows you love but hate

Which shows did you start out loving, but end up hating? For me, Buffy is the ultimate example. I so love the first three seasons, one of my favourite shows ever. The fourth season was already disappointing, but it just got worse and worse after that. It turned into something I would've avoided at all costs. I like to pretend the rest of the show simply doesn't exist.

I generally don't hate anything, but I do get bored or disappointed. I think it becomes pretty obvious when the show shifts from the original plan to hanging on because the ratings are still good. Supernatural, Criminal Minds, Smallville, Bones, Friends are some just off the top of my head.

I agree. It's more about disappointment than hate. Ballykissangel is one where I loved the first three seasons, but after two central characters were written off the show at the end of series three, my interest went to zero. I tried watching the fourth series, but the show's heart and soul were gone and I gave up on it.

I agree about Buffy. I would say The X-files is kind of the same. I loved the first 3 seasons but the Mythology gets repetitive and boring by season 4 plus and the quality of the Monster-of-the-weeks drops quite a bit too, especially by season 6. Season 9 is so bad, I canΒ΄t watch it and the reboot sucked too.

reply

Yes, I feel exactly the same way about The X-Files! The mythology became a huge turn-off.

reply

Season 6, Whedon left and Marti Norton became the showrunner. That's why the series declined so hard.

reply

The big change with Buffy happened after Joss Whedon left, in the 6th season. Until then, with high and lows, it's a very good series.

In the last two seasons, 6th and 7th, Marti Norton became the showrunner and the show went full feminist, which is a way to say it went to hell. It's the moment where every girl in the show starts to kick vampire's asses, you know, those supernatural beings with supernatural strength. It was like WTF?

reply

Whedon was already focused more on Angel in the 4th season, I really felt the show changed around that time.

reply

I agree, thats when they left high school. Also Charisma and David left.

reply

And no Seth Green either, I had really warmed up to him.

reply

TWD. It's the first show I bailed on after watching from the first ep. Even when they decline like GOT or Dexter, I stay to the end -- but TWD just became unwatchable after a while.

reply

Lost. I loved it at first and then finally gave up and didn't watch the last two seasons.

I'm tired of the Black List - wish they would wrap it up and I'm very quickly getting bored with Manifest.

I loved GOT until the last season - then it felt rushed and I was really disappointed in the ending with Bran becoming king.

reply

Doctor Who, TWD, Elementary, Agents of Shield, You, Vikings, Mr. Robot

reply

Homeland. Loved the first 2-3 seasons, hung in for the 4th, then bailed. No interest in seeing any more of it, but I might re-watch the first 2-3 seasons again.

Ha, I might adopt your method and pretend the rest of the show doesn't even exist πŸ˜„

reply

Oh, it works...until you run into other fans...who somehow always seem to think the opposite.πŸ˜‘

reply

I'll be sure to make a point of avoiding other fans, then :)

Dallas after the dream season was never the same
X-files and ongoing conspiracy story line - I just watched the stand alone ones.

reply

Same here.πŸ‘ During my rewatch of The X-files I actually found the mythology during the first season rather interesting. After that it became so contrived, I just gave up!
