I bought some movies today...

Today I bought the Steven Seagal 4 film favourite dvd collection and the World War II Classics collection dvd set. The Seagal set includes: Above the Law, Under Siege, The Glimmer Man, and Fire Down Below. The World War II Collection includes: Anzio, The Bridge on the River Kwai, The Caine Mutiny, From Here to Eternity, Fury, The Guns of Navarone, Hanover Street, The Heroes of Telemark, and Sahara. What movies did you buy recently?

reply

JULIET NAKED.
HOBBS AND SHAW.
BROOKLYN NINE NINE SEASON 6.

reply

Brooklyn Nine Nine..One of the top 10 comedies of all time.

reply

NINE NINE!!!

I bought a little known film called liar also known as deceiver starring Tim Roth, Chris Penn and Michael Rooker.

I remember seeing it when I was a kid and loving it and it still holds up.

Under siege is great but the other ones in that seagal collection not so much. They should have included out for justice and marked for death.

reply

Some Like It Hot.
Gone With the Wind.
Old Man and the Sea.
The Green Book.

reply

Why are you buying movies can't you stream them on Netflix, Amazon, hulu?

reply

Not all movies are available to stream.

reply

I've certainly been stuck trying to stream an old movie, but the last resort is usually buying it on streaming from Amazon. If you can't do that than its pretty rare.

reply

Not answering for Allaby, but for me with streaming services things can disappear whenever agreements are up. Even if you purchase the movie, like on Apple, you don't actually own it and it can just disappear one day as well. So for me, if I really want a movie, I will buy it.

reply

I don't know. I've bought all my movies from Amazon. They are pretty reliable. All are still available. I just don't want to fool with a DVD player anymore.

reply

Tcrum, when you buy a movie from Amazon, does it come with any special features? And if you don't mind me asking, how much typically does it cost?

reply

I haven't seen any special features. The ones I've bought are typically movies I love. I don't buy a movie unless I'm really emotional about it. 10$ max On Amazon I own Seems like old Times, Foul Play, all the Harry Potters,Neverending Story, Romancing the Stone, Jewel of the nile, Victor Victoria, Xanadu etc. I like movies that if i'm feeling bad I just turn it on and I feel better.

reply

I really like special features and I often buy movies when they are on sale at a good price. The Steven Seagal 4 film dvd set I got was only 9.99 and the World War Classics set which has 9 films in it was only 22.99. Today I bought 3 more blu-rays for 7.99 each (Baywatch, Notorious, and The Big Year). All 3 have an extended version of the film plus lots of other additional special features.

reply

For the most part they are, but if amazon (or any other company) has a spat with the distribution company it could lead to them no longer having the rights to have that movie on their site and you are out of luck.

reply

When Ultraviolet folded, everyone who "bought" a digital copy from them lost their access to it. It happened to me. Thank God I had the DVD.

reply

Me too. I was able to transfer most of my library to Google Play, but I did lose a few.

reply

That's a good point. It is nice to own the physical copy sometimes.

reply

I got rid of my DVD player about 2 years ago but it took me a year to stop thinking "Hey lets go rent ? and then to remember , oh yes I don't have a dvd player anymore. I actually took several movies home in the first few months but had no Dvd player. Sad.

reply

PHYSICAL COPY IS MY JAM...NEAR 20,000 TITLES IN MY HOME LIBRARY BETWEEN VHS/DVD/BLU...THESE DAYS I BUY THE MAJORITY OF MY DISCS AT YARD SALES AND THRIFT STORES..1 TO 3 BUCKS A POP...FOR THOSE NEW RELEASE OR HARD TO FIND TITLES,ITS ALL EBAY.

That's cool. An interesting mix there. Do you usually buy from one place or from different stores?

reply

I either buy them from FYE (there are two stores within 10 miles of me (one to the south and one to the north) or online from Amazon.
Since I have a Chase/Amazon Visa card, I accumulate cash rewards every time I use the card. I then use these reward dollars to pay for various purchases from Amazon.

Am I the only person who is intrigued as to what the 4th Steven Seagal film was? since you only listed 3 of them.

reply

No. I was wondering too

reply

I forgot to list Above The Law. That was the 4th one.

reply

Thank you I can go to sleep now without that on my mind. That seems to be quite a good box set as they are a selection of some of his best. Although I am a bit sceptical about the sequel his is planning for Above the Law.

reply

You gotta love The Guns of Navrone! 👍

reply

I'm sure I have seen Guns of Navraone before, but I don't remember it very well, so I'm overdue for a rewatch.

reply

Great cast! I have the soundtrack on vinyl too. It’s one of those films that I love because I watched it so often as a kid.
