Christmas music

What are your thoughts? Love it? Can't stand it? Annoyed when you start hearing it in November?

It's kind of my guilty pleasure. I think because I associate those old carols with so many happy family Christmas celebrations in my childhood and youth, times that can never be recreated because of loss and separation, I can go right back there through memories those songs trigger.

O Holy Night is my favourite, which is ironic in a way given the lack of a single religious bone in my body. Something about that song is just epic, the ridiculous key change at the end maybe, I don't know, it just hits me right in that good-will-to-all-men spot.

I love traditional Christmas songs, but only at Christmastime. So not NOW!

I love it. It's also the one time of year I can put up with crooning.

I don't feel in the Christmas spirit until I hear this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OATi34PKNPw

I like some. Oh Holy Night is my favourite as well and I'm an atheist.

I also have a copy of The First Noel by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir that I love and I can't seem to find it on youtube to share. It changes keys frequently and I think it's just beautiful.

I like Christmas music. I just don't want to hear it before Thanksgiving.

reply

I don't care for most of it except for a few classics
Even then I only need to hear Bing Crosby etc a couple times a holiday season

reply

I like Christmas music but they start playing it much too early and too much. Wait until December and then just sprinkle a few Christmas songs here and there. I enjoy hearing Christmas music all day starting on Christmas Eve. And once Christmas Day is over - stop! By then I'm done with it.

reply

Good point, there's no need for it after midnight Christmas Day.

reply

Only becomes tolerable the day AFTER Thanksgiving.

All Christmas music played before Thanksgiving is nothing but greedy marketing tactics.

I love O Holy Night and the spiritual carols on Christmas eve.

Cheery songs like Let it Snow, Christmas Waltz, and the one about swigging wassel are all great at holiday parties and ice rinks and other festive gathering places.
