Stonekeeper's Summer Game: I recommend THIS Mystery Movie #501 [Andaz Apna Apna (1994), guessed by LauraGrace]

'Tis I again, now standing in for damosuzuki. I'll try to make this game a bit less easy than the last one. :P

Ready for more fun and excitement, friends? It is time to play! Join the party! Here are the rules in case anyone forgot:

I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guys are going to guess, I will give a hint that CONNECTS your guess with the movie I have in mind.

Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve a love triangle.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints, the point goes to the OP and he/she gets to start another one.
- Movie must have at least 3500 votes. Otherwise, add a Bonus Hint.

Hint 1: Apocalypse Now (1979) - Runtime at least 2 hours.
Hint 2: DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp (1990) - Comedy genre.
Hint 3: Buried (2010) - Setting is in Asia.
Hint 4: The Myth (2005) - Director also has writing credit.
Hint 5: Devils on the Doorstep (2000) - IMDb rating in the 8's.
Hint 6: Akibiyori (1960) - Audience score of over 80% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Hint 7: Anbe Sivam (2003) - Country of origin: India.
Hint 8: Bangalore Days (2014) - Director has won a Silver Lotus Award at the Indian National Film Awards.
Hint 9: Queen (2013) - Fewer than 60,000 IMDb votes.

LauraGrace wins with Andaz Apna Apna (1994), a gut-bustingly hilarious Indian comedy. I've rarely laughed as hard as I did at this movie.

You didn't check Audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. I'm the rookie here, LauraGrace!

reply

director doesn't share a writing credit on your movie.

and yeah I don't know my way around RT. Should I delete?

reply

Ah! I misread clue. I thought any old writing credit! Forgive my being impertinent!

THIS IS HOW WE DO IT!! *does victory dance*

this one was tough

I will try and do better to read the clues. It was a coincidence that some of mine shared a writer/direct credit on the same movie, I really did think it meant any old writing credit, which doesn't make sense when I think about it, probably most directors have a writing credit. Anyway, even knowing that my next guess wan't going to be your correct one.

reply

Well to be fair, minor errors are to be expected from time to time. Especially when there's a difficult round and people are getting frustrated and just trying to get the next hint. Personally, I usually only rule a guess invalid if people slip up on something really obvious, too glaring to ignore. Otherwise I might look the other way. I was actually working on hints for both yours and Laura's guesses when you guys deleted them.

Oh btw, Gol Maal (your guess earlier) is also hilarious. Good movie.

reply

with the clues given, I ended up with, I think it was 36 films, then started going down the list, checking for director with the Sliver Lotus Award, then you brought the rt score to my consciousness, just a matter of taking the time to do the work.
ridiculous how much time I have on my hands.

After the painfully easy round I hosted before this one, I wanted to make a bit more of a challenge lol. It was a good round, too. You all did great.

reply

yeah it was a fun day. See everyone tomorrow.

reply

Good night!

reply

Crazy how many games we've gone through today lol. We burned through six rounds, one of which lasted less than fifteen minutes, and got no less than two new players on the scoreboard. Fun times.

I think this might be the first time anyone has recommended an Indian movie on this game. I felt India deserves a little love here, so I picked Andaz Apna Apna. Anyone who likes to laugh, check it out. It's so off the wall and hilarious. I watch it every year or two.

reply

is it easy to find on-line? with subtitles?

reply

I myself, I rented it on DVD from Netflix, and then bought the DVD from Amazon. And yeah it has subtitles; I can't speak Hindi so yeah lol. I don't know if it can be found anywhere other than on those sites though.

reply

Ah darn, I just checked, and Andaz Apna Apna is no longer available for Netflix's DVD rental service. Their selection has been shrinking for some time now. I'm glad I was able to rent it while it was available. According to Netflix, I rented it in January 2015.
