recommend a song you think most people won't know.

i was randomly browsing around this evening while watching a trashy movie as one does, and i stumbled across a song called 'you don't care' by a soul/folk performer i'd never heard of named terry callier. completely unfamiliar to me, but i thought it was very pleasant, has a nice lilting melody in a 70s easy listening sort of way that i really enjoyed.

if you have any unappreciated gems you'd like me & the world to hear, pass them along. i'm up for hearing something new & different.

reply

OMG! are you from long island?

reply

Nah. But close enough to know of them.

reply

did we already have this conversation?

reply

Nope.

You mean there's more NYC/Metro area weirdos here who've heard of The Good Rats?!?

Maybe you're thinking of a convo at a Zebra concert at La'mour, the Rock Capitol of Brooklyn

reply

or Twisted Sister at hammerheads

reply

Is that where you hooked up with AndyKing1967?

reply

so many places, so many men........

* note to self: stop sexually harassing people on MC *

reply

Hey!

reply

I'm right here you know, lol.

reply

just joking around.

what did you guys have for breakfast?

reply

Eggs (unfertilised hopefully).

reply

Surprise!

reply

Oh boy!

reply

jk - i release you from this silly caper.

reply

Banter, teasing, having a bit of fun is all good. I just can’t understand why some posters seem to want to turn everything into a fight. Luckily not too many of them in here.

reply

now you ruined it. screw u

reply

you must be joking. I catch so much shit if i post anywhere but the games.

reply

Best not to react. Don’t give them the satisfaction.

reply

I'm thinking of changing my MC name.
Something asexual.

reply

What, why?

reply

Some times i think it would be easier.
But I've already changed my mind. I will represent my she-ness!

reply

As soon as you make changes, ‘they’ve’ won. So, don’t change.

reply

i don't want to win
i don't want to lose
i just want to be.

reply

Not when it comes to StoneK's game

reply

LOL!
I admit, I'm a wee bit competitive.
But look at You! You are dominating the current game.

reply

dominating? by reminding other players of their guesses that cant possibly win? silence would be a better strategy, no?

reply

whatever Mr. Modesty. Sure would be nice if StoneKeeper made an appearance.

reply

the rules need some revision. and there's 2 movies left to corner the market -- but if you're that lazy...

reply

Oh no you didn't!!!!

reply

I'm sorry. I forgot that you were up all night with Andy. Get some rest.

reply

sounds like somebody is jelly

reply

while you're wasting time, Kawada grabbed one

reply

I don’t want to play a game that I’m always destined to lose, so I simply remove myself from the game.

reply

that's a wise way of looking at it.

reply

Thanks, life’s too short for senseless fighting; all those lost moments.

reply

the Plan B kicked in?

and you thought Andy gave you a funny looking Advil.

reply

I thought it was Rohypnol.

reply

😊😊😊

reply

i liked this quite a bit. reminds me of sparks a bit, perhaps. i might drill down into this group a bit more...

reply

They're very hard to pin down -- so there's what you heard plus a lot more that's nothing like that.

Probably why they never quite made it despite being agonizingly close.

As Rolling Stone described them: "the world's most famous unknown band"

reply

i just realized what else that track reminds me of, somewhat - the hold steady, a band i haven't thought about in a few years. it has that same anthemic, slightly melodramatic yet still taking the piss out of itself & not taking things too seriously feel.

reply

yeah, the Good Rats will never be accused of that. but they could really play.

reply

i like this a lot. is it just me or do i hear a bit of low life/brotherhood era new order influence here? i want to hear more of this for sure.

reply

That might be true :-) Sadly they are an extremely underrated group here in Sweden, their average view count on their songs doesn't reach even 100000 on Youtube, i have never heard them mentioned anywhere in media. The only reason i know they exist is because i was lucky enough to hear them played on the radio one time which made me look them up. They have 4 albums out so far. I can only hope they get the attention they deserves one day.

Blue Angel: Maybe He'll Know - https://youtu.be/zxVgT8d9TEE
Yes, that is a very young Cyndi Lauper back in 1980, before her solo career.
I did own that album, and the original album cover did not say, "Featuring Cyndi Lauper."
Another song from the Blue Angel album that I liked was ...
I Had a Love - https://youtu.be/kJCO5fC7kPM

Might as well add two more songs from a current group that I like a lot, namely, Scars on 45 ...
Runaway - https://youtu.be/LAIuKk79CHY
Let the Bridges Burn - https://youtu.be/V05ja1qflaQ

the first two world party albums were truly great. kinda lost track of him/them after that.

that second album had 4 or 5 songs that were pure pop bliss.

elo are a band i really want to dig into one day.
i know the hits of course, and like them, and (don't laugh) i really dig the xanadu soundtrack, but i really want to spend an afternoon on spotify one weekend with their 70s records.

reply

Jeff Lynne is a genius - as a writer, producer, musician and vocalist. Dig deep and enjoy the riches to be found. Nothing wrong with the Xanadu soundtrack either; ‘All Over The World’ is awesome!
