Stanley Kubrick's 'Napoleon', the Greatest Movie Never Made

Kubrick gathered 15,000 location images, read hundreds of books, gathered earth samples, hired 50,000 Romanian troops, and prepared to shoot the most ambitious film of all time, only to lose funding before production officially began.

Interesting. I did not know that. But imho he DID make the greatest movie ever: 2001: A Space Odyssey.

Its been a long time since I've seen that, so I think it might be time for a rewatch. I've also been planning on watching "Barry Lyndon", which I've shamefully never seen.

Back on the subject on Scientology, I was surprised to hear one of Kubricks daughters is a member and has been estranged from her family ever since joining.

I saw Barry Lyndon, and actually don't remember a thing about it, other than he was in the British Army, and was played by Ryan O'Neal. And the battle scene was kinda cool. Other than that....

Sad to hear about Kubrick's daughter. One more poor, deluded fool. I bet Stanley is spinning so fast in his grave that he's creating his own gravity field, kind of like the centrifuge in 2001.

Is that the one who went on Infowars and talked about the globalists and fluoride?

reply

Not sure. I'm not a fan of Alex Jones.

You liked 2001: A Space Oddity????? It was the most boring movie ever and waaaaaay too long.

Oh YES! I LOVED it, and consider it the best film ever made, 10/10! I still remember back in 1968, sitting in our living room in a state of stunned awe for two hours afterwards contemplating the brilliance of this masterpiece, and its director, Stanley Kubrick, the greatest director of all time.

However, I know some people do not share my opinion, and that's okay. It seems that people either love it, or hate it.
And that's why they make chocolate and vanilla.

You are so right. I feel like Blade Runner is in the same love hate boat. That would be a great forum topic!

Thanks. Yes it would, and I loved both Blade Runners.

I have never heard of this. I wonder who he had in mind to play Napoleon.

From Wikipedia:

"In a conversation with the British Film Institute, Kubrick's brother-in-law Jan Harlan stated the film was set to enter production with David Hemmings as the title figure Napoleon (later, that role went to Jack Nicholson) and Audrey Hepburn as Kubrick's preference for the character Josephine."

I nominate Klaus Kinski!
