Beatles Question

Just curious what you thought. There have been some great biopics made about John Lennon’s life but none about Paul, George or Ringo’s that I know of. All of them have interesting backstorys too, so I would have thought some filmmaker would have been interested. Also (although I’m speculating Yoko may have something to do with this) there’s never been a movie made about John and Cynthia’s relationship. She wrote a great book about it years ago that would translate well into a movie.

A movie about the breakup of The Beatles would be good. I am surprised it hasn't been done.

reply

Ooohh that would be juicy!

reply

Martin Scorsese did a great documentary about George Harrison a few years ago.

reply

It was good! I saw it on Netflix.

reply

That was excellent!

reply

Yes! Very well done!

reply

I'm a bit surprised that none have been done. Are they too iconic? Untouchable?

reply

Maybe waiting for Yoko to die and avoid the lawsuits.

reply

Fair point, except there are other heirs, although she's the main bugaboo.

reply

I’ve also wondered both (too iconic and waiting on Yoko). On the latter though Cynthia was able to write her book and not get sued, and while she remained classy about it the book told the ugly truth about how she was treated by Yoko.

reply

Just my opinion, but Yoko is creepy. She strikes me as manipulative.

reply

You've gotta read Cynthia Lennon's book "John." She wouldn't even let Cynthia come to New York after John's murder. She told her, "it's not like you're an old school friend of mine."

reply

I read that book. Yoko is terrible.

reply

That she was...

reply

This story could be a brilliant biopic if well casted👍

reply

Yes! 👍

reply

I'm happy with their movies and their music.

The reason that nobody's ever done a McCartney biopic is that the real McCartney is alive, and able to afford all the lawyers in the world. Nothing is happening there, without his approval.

And the reason nobody's made a film about Ringo is that he hasn't done anything but enjoy life for the last few decades, more power to him! And no actor alive today is as effortlessly charming.

No, George is the one who's been underserved. I do need to see that documentary, because he really did live an interesting life. Sex, drugs, rock and roll, cults, messy public divorces, Monty Python and Handmade Films, and Friar Park.

reply

I agree with all of this. I don't think an actor really could do Ringo either, but his backstory is still interesting nonetheless. The Martin Scorsese documentary about George is great and covers a lot (as others have already mentioned), but a movie would also be really good to watch. He was definitely a fascinating individual, I mean he went from this quiet kid to everything you mentioned. I never stopped to consider Paul and lawyers, so that makes a lot of sense.
Cynthia Lennon's book would make an excellent film, but speaking of lawyers, I believe that and Yoko is why is hasn't happened yet.

There are MANY interviews (which I prefer to documentaries) of all of them, which is their truth.... The bio-pics have been BS.

reply

On that note, The Anthology is the best!

I love watching interviews from the early 60s, and seeing if the guys change stories, and also to see their changes in personality.
