And are there any improvements you would want added to the site?
For me personally, I would like it if we could upload profile pictures, have profile information / layouts, and could create lists of our favorite movies, along with watch later lists for upcoming films were interested in seeing.
This site is almost perfect. It just needs a few tune ups.
For one it needs more traffic,,,on more than just the newest things.
And one of the main pluses of IMDb was its rich content on older or more obscure films...and the fact that those boards still had activity for a newer viewer looking for info.
I think you summed things up perfectly. Makes me wonder, where did everyone go?

It would seem that the majority gave the boards up completely. There was a film board that I visited daily and even though it is an older film the board was very active and the discussions were lively. Now months go by without a single post. I have visited a few other boards, but none of them are very active. I have noticed here that new releases can become active, but only for a short while.

shareI agree. All the whining about avatars and other alleged embellishments is pointless, because, after two years, what you see is what you get. More traffic? Jim would have to spend a LOT more money. The message boards at IMDb were the tail of the dog, the dog being the biggest online movie database in the world. At MC, we have vestiges of the message boards, and nothing at all that resembles the data base! I can go to IMDb and find out who that actor is, who directed it, what its budget was, how much it made. I canβt do that here. MC is a stir of echoes, too many of them banal, self-centered, useless and/or pointless. This is it. Take it or leave it.

This site, however, has more friendly users. I have yet to get in a heated exchange with anyone and I don't see a lot of topics where you can tell someone is trying to start an argument.
As many people said not enough traffic. But that's the problem with almost all the sites. Once IMDb shut down their message boards everyone scattered all over the place. Now no one place has enough people.

shareMovieChat is infinitely better than IMDb forum. Here we may have a little traffic, but compared to IMDb forum's it's still way way better because they have exactly zero traffic.
shareThe death of IMDb message boards was tragic, for someone who believes movies are only really worthwhile when you share the experience and can openly discuss it afterwards, hours, days or years later. There has since been no adequate replacement for that forum. As others have mentioned, it's the sheer lack of traffic/userbase that is missing on forums like MovieChat. In most cases there are very few or zero recent posts on most movies/shows or other relevant topics other than the most recent popular releases/events. In short, the fun is gone, and no I don't mean trolls, haters, bullies, click-baiters, etc. What is missing is the sheer volume and diversity of abundant tolerant lively banter with 1000s of other movie enthusiasts or maybe people who just want to interact. Social media dying out due to too much political correctness, libel, defamation, litigious paranoia - no fun allowed.

Yeah, that's it in a nutshell for me.
You just ignore the trolls and concentrate on the good stuff.
I really miss going back to shows that I hadn't seen for years that came up in discussion and popping on to imdb to find a rich conversation about people who had remembered them similarly. It's a huge loss as a resource.
I loved discussing a show / film I'd just seen on the message boards. The volume of traffic on here isn't enough to replicate it unfortunately.
