Has anyone here... 🎥

...ever been on a film set and actually witnessed how filming is done? I haven't, but someday I'd like to, just to see how they really do it. I've always wondered about it. I know there's a lot of time spent setting up shots, lighting, sound, etc. I'm curious about how often they run through a scene before they actually shoot it. How many people are on the set? The director, lighting people, prop people, sound people, makeup people, etc., and I'm sure there are plenty more. I'm curious. 🤔

It's tough work, long days from what little I experienced, a lot of snobby assistants,

seems like from what I saw certain group of people on set who know each other are in the loop or bullshit more and it makes you feel like your'e left out or being talked about

i'm a the worst extra in the biz though lol

it's tough for the people who have to act, being an extra is easy, long and boring

I can't say I have either, although our son did get to watch (from a distance) Johnny Depp and Christian Bail in some scenes while filming Public Enemies. They were filming around our state's Capitol Building in Madison, Wis. That's where our son lives. As shogun says, it can really screw up parking for a few days because this was also a period piece. Only older cars around the area. My son says he didn't really get to see that much of the actors.
He did have a much more interesting experience years ago when he was working at a poster shop in Madison. One morning who should walk in? Robin Williams. (he was in town doing a show) He wasn't in the shop very long. He looked around and then asked for change from a twenty dollar bill. My son says he wasn't quite sure at first, if it was him or not because you were usually use to seeing him so ON and animated all the time. This guy looked like him, but was reserved. The moment he asked for change though, our son recognized the voice. Some other people had walked in as the transaction was going on. They immediately started staring and pointing. Williams left with no incident.
We were all so saddened when we heard of his passing. Such a talented man.

Yes, Robin Williams' passing was very sad. So sorry to hear he was fighting the depression demon that was likely aggravated by the Parkinson's-like disease he had. As you said, such a talented man.

Williams was wonderful
That really was terrible news to hear

I've seen filming on the street, but never been on or near an actual closed-off set.

No, but I have a friend who was an extra in a movie directed by Phillip Noyce. I can't remember what the movie was called. He met the director and had a smoke with him.
