Where would you rather live: Hawaii or Alaska?

And why?

Alaska:

reply

That's cool. Was that in Alaska?

reply

Can't swear to it, but I do believe Alaska has the most seaplanes per capita than just about anywhere else. Craziest bush pilots too.

reply

Did some digging around. It is Alaska and the pilot is fairly impressive in STOL (short take-off and landing) competition.

reply

Impressive.

reply

One's way too cold and the other is far too hot. I'm pretty happy living in the pacific northwest.
If I have to choose, I'll go with Alaska.

reply

I live in Pacific Northwest too (near Vancouver, BC) and am quite content here as well.

reply

I live on Vancouver island. I used to live in Edmonton. The weather is much better here.

reply

Heh. I live on the Island too (Nanaimo). We get a lot of people here from Alberta. Edmonton is a hole.

reply

You live pretty close to where I do. I'm in Parksville.
Yeah, I don't have much love for Edmonton.

reply

Did you check out the sand castle building competition this year? I missed out.

reply

I didn't check it out this year or last, but I did in 2015 and 2016.

reply

Hawaii. I hate cold climates.

reply

Cold climates hate you.

reply

In Soviet Russia

Since I've never been to Alaska, you'll have to pay my travel expenses before I can answer your questions. A month or two ought to give me all the information I'll need!

reply

Sounds like a month or two of sheer misery. But hey, if you can handle the cold more power to you.

reply

Alaska is reportedly cool and lovely during the summer, and I'd love nothing more than a chance to spend a month there exploring the mountains and tundra and spectacular coasts!

I have no idea if I could survive an Alaskan winter, but if someone is willing to pay my expenses I'd give it a go.

reply

I hear mosquito season is horrible up there, the bloodsuckers swarming in droves before the cold snap.

reply

I not only have appropriate clothing and a mosquito hood that goes over the entire head with room for a hat, I'd be willing to wear a full-body net burkha to keep the little bastards off!

If someone gave me an all-expenses-paid trip to Alaksa, that is.

reply

Haha!
There's always Gold Rush lottery, though I think it's only in Florida.

reply

On this basis alone, I'd probably choose Hawaii, although I'm sure they have their share of unwelcome critters. Nice weather in Hawaii, but I'd probably get rock fever. My preference is to stay right where I am.

reply

I love the scenery of the countryside, but don't like the idea of being isolated with tons of snow all around, only seeing snow once in my life one time during a North Carolina winter. Hawaiians I've known personally were extremely friendly, an elderly native couple who owned a large horse ranch on Kona Island. I'm too much of a land lubber though to live surrounded by ocean.

reply

There are a lot of cities in the lower 48 that get way colder than Anchorage, Alaska in the winter. For instance, Minneapolis tends to get a lot colder in winter time than Anchorage. Probably because Anchorage is close to ocean.

reply

Neither. I'm a "lower 48" type of guy. Hawaii and Alaska are both too isolated for me.

😎

reply

Hawaii because I can't stand cold weather.

reply

If it wasn't 6 months of darkest I might live in Alaska.

reply

Probably takes a special type of person to live in Alaska.

reply

As much as I love the wilderness and vast open spaces, I think Alaska would get old after a while, so I would choose Hawaii. Although, I hear native Hawaiians hate interlopers, especially ones who buy land. Better watch your back!

reply

Although, I hear native Hawaiians hate interlopers...

Wow, I didn't realize after all this time that was still the case. I lived there decades ago and it's true, we were despised, referred to as " haoles, " basically a derogatory term for a white person. And yeah, I had to watch my back going to school every day.
