The spiders you swallow when you sleep

You've heard this one, right? You swallow x number of spiders while you sleep per night, per year, in your lifetime etc. Every time you hear about it, it's a different number, over a different period of time. Now I'm asking this: what possible study could even be done to determine how many, if any, spiders we consume? I'm sure at some point in our lives we eat spiders while we sleep, but I posit that any statistic on the subject has been entirely fabricated. I just heard Kelly Ripa state it as a fact (8 per night!) and I wondered if it would even be possible to do a real study. If you did it in a sleep study environment, that certainly wouldn't be an accurate representation of the proposed real world scenario. What is up with this bizarre factoid?

And please, if you know of an actual study, I want to know.

You know, I could have went all day, hell all week, better yet....never to have read that bit of info!😱 I must start wearing a full face mask...but then the eyes are entry points!

reply

You've never heard that before? Given that we are allegedly within 3 feet of a spider at all times, it makes sense that we must eat them. I don't have a source on that but it might have been David Attenborough. He never mentioned eating them, just that they are always nearby.

reply

No! I haven’t heard of that gross info before and now I’ll be dreaming about it! Thanks!

reply

I bring it up because this is something like the 30th time I've heard someone say it. Always different data, always with nothing to back it up.

Sounds like the sequel to "Things We Lost in the Fire"

reply

Only if you have bedbugs? Yucky!

reply

Bedbugs and spiders are different things. Do spiders eat bedbugs?

reply

Spiders are carnivores...why not?🤷‍♀️

reply

I suppose they do, but regardless of bedbugs, spiders are everywhere.

reply

🙇‍♀️ You don’t have to keep reminding me! “Don’t think spiders, don’t think spiders, don’t think spiders while 😴 sleeping!

reply

Yes, they keep saying that and I just don't want to know!😱

reply

I thought they crept into ears to lay eggs and feast on human brains.

reply

Dear God man!!
Youve taken sleep from us forever!

reply

I've heard it's extremely rare for an insect to get into your mouth or your ear while you're sleeping.

I've always been scared of spiders until I moved to the sticks and SPIDERS everywhere. Big fuzzy ones. The kind you get your S/O to kill because they are so terrifying. Always heard this study too! Who did that? Who volunteered for it? That's what I'd like to know. I think its just one of those made up things but who knows maybe they do crawl in there. Odd that you made this thread though, I literally thought about it last night haha.
