Actors who died at the top of their game

Sister thread to actors who fell off the map.

The ones I'll always carry with me are Heath Ledger and Philip Seymour Hoffmann. In my opinion they were both at the pinnacle of their careers and their talent. I'll miss them forever.

Who else?

reply

Phil Hartman
River Phoenix

reply

So true. I'm a huge fan of both. I watch River stuff all the time to this day, especially Stand by Me and My Own Private Idaho. Hartman doesn't get as much play, but I do occasionally watch old Simpsons, SNL, and News Radio.

reply

Two damn fine additions! The things those two would have done I imagine would have been very entertaining👍

reply

Brandon Lee.The best crow there was.

reply

The only crow as far as I'm concerned. His dad was also at the top of his game when he died.

reply

True.They both died too young.

reply

I missed James Gandolfini...

reply

Yeah he was great. I never even got into the Sopranos until after he was gone. I also loved him in True Romance.

reply

[deleted]

As an Italian, he was one the great ones for us...

Maybe Bill Bixby or Larry Hagman wasn’t at the top of their game towards the end, but their death really affected me

reply

Bill bixby! There is a name I've not seen in a while😔

reply

He was a nice guy like David Banner in real life

reply

But you wouldn't want to make him angry! You wouldn't like him when he's angry😉

reply

I never wanted him to Hulk out...It scared the hell out of me as a kid..

reply

👍true romance👍

reply

Who?

reply

Sorry...I was responding to Pete👍

reply

Yeah Gandolfini was an excellent henchman in True Romance.

reply

Hard to find much to complain about with that flick!

reply

Nearly perfect film. If only Sam Jackson could've lived longer, but then maybe we wouldn't have gotten Jules.

reply

😂👍

reply

Ledger and Hoffman were huge losses
I say Swayze

reply

Yeah, Swayze was awesome, but I feel like he passed him prime a while before. Man, I've always got a "yeah, but" for you. I'll work on it.

reply

I just felt that he was entering a really good middle-aged acting career
Makes me wonder what could have been
And dont worry about our contrary opinions Amigo...we always have interesting things to say to each other, its all good Pete

reply

I just learned in improv class to always add "yes, and" to keep the show going, and a "no" or a "yes, but" is a conversation killer.

reply

LOL!
Never heard that before
Yes, but so anyway
...just joking😁!

reply

I work on the phone and you'd be amazed how many people string along a conversation with "So and if but so and so" or the like. Oh wait, you wouldn't be amazed, you're in New York. 😆

reply

Oh man...we hardly ever shut up in New York!
Im very judgemental about this sort of thing...until i realize that im as gabby as everyone else 😆

reply

Do you do a lot of telling people to "listen" when they already are? Love that one.

reply

'listen,' 'let me tell you something,' 'hear me out...'
Yes
Im ashamed to admit this is how i talk...i also do the hand-talking gesture thing where i use my hands as much as my words to express stuff
Im afraid im fairly obnoxious...
The typical asshole New Yorker lol!

reply

What can I say? What could I tell you? What're ya gonna do? I find East coast speak sort of amusing and also occasionally anxiety inducing.

reply

you talkin' to me?
Hey! im walkin' here!
What are you saying over there, im over here?!?

Somehow, this crap makes perfect sense to other New Yorkers lol

And yes, anxiety is your constant companion in New York

reply

Swayze😞

reply

Awful loss
Still pretty pissed off about it

reply

What was he in near the end that was good? There was a show or something right?

reply

He was on a crime show called The Beast for a year or so, right before the end
It was ok but not his best stuff

reply

Yup...was in the midst of a big come back...real bummer👎

reply

James Dean and Paul Walker, anyone?

reply

Yes sir.

reply

True
Dean especially...but nothing whatsoever against Walker
Dean just had that badboy thing going on
He was really cool

reply

I liked James Dean, but I think his career would had ended after Giant.

reply

I think he had great charisma and would have done a ton of great movies
The fact that he wrecked out over 60 years ago and we still mention him speaks volumes about his talent and screen presense

reply

I think his tragic death that people mostly remember....

reply

I dont know pop...i saw about 3 of his 5 movies and thought he had 'it' if you get me...he was pretty great
He was also really handsome...really good looks can take a guy pretty far in the biz

But yes, his tragic death may have leant something to his legend...

reply

I wanted be a James Dean as teen also back in the 90’s...

I own all his films on DVD

Giant is my favourite..

He has only 3 films

reply

Oh youre right...only 3:
East of Eden
Rebel Without a Cause
Giant

Great movies

And a bunch of TV episodes

reply

Not too crazy about East Of Eden...

As a kid Rebel Without a cause was my favourite..

reply

Anton Yelchin

reply

So true. He was great.

reply

I saw Alpha Dogs and wow this actor's really good, he's gonna be big in the future.

reply

Alpha Dog is excellent and he was so good in it. Also Charlie Bartlett, Hearts in Atlantis, his role as the new Chekov, the movie Only Lovers Left Alive and many more. He had so many more good performances left. Super sad.

reply

He was really starting to come into his own with some serious adult roles. A true shame his life got cut short by a faulty parking break.

reply

His death broke my heart. charliekelly told me about him several years ago and showed me a few of his movies. Its hard for me to think about Anton because I enjoyed him so much. I still need to watch some of his stuff soon.

reply

Anton Yelchin. I can't say I'm a fan or anything, but I'm sure there was more in store for him.

Rebecca Schaeffer. Perhaps she would've faded into oblivion, but it's also very much possible she would've become a tv or movie star.

Also, the two girls from Poltergeist.

reply

Not so sure she was at the top of her game but I sure miss her. Brittany Murphy. Only 32 when she died. Loved her big brown eyes.

reply

Ah man, I can't believe I'm now actually older than she ever was!

reply

Another one not well known but was murdered by Music producer Phil Spector. Lana Clarkson. She was only 40.
