Why do we dream?

Sometimes I have really good dreams, but I have a lot of bad ones that are so disturbing they wake me up. Last night I dreamed Water was coming down in my kitchen from pipes on the ceiling.

I like it when I dream of friends or relatives I don't see very much or they have died. I'd rather have dreams that bring back good memories.

I've been told that it is meant to be a processing situation for yourself to deal with the day left behind.

I certainly don't know though.

reply

Dreams are basically virtual reality simulation training. Animals may be dreaming about catching prey or evading predators (so they can practice without actually getting eaten when they fail), etc. Human life is exceedingly more complex so what we dream is more or less random topics.

reply

We must never forget that we are human, and as humans we dream, and when we dream we dream of money. Or sometimes, if you're like me, you dream of your drunken knucklehead brother driving his truck through the front of your house.

reply

I know right?!
What's up with that guy!
He could of at least gone through the back.

reply

Considering the angle of approach, he probably would have taken out the roof.

reply

I can't say much.
I once drove a 1972 Corvette convertible into somebody's living room at 3 am. on Thanksgiving morning.
At least it wasn't my brother!

reply

Sounds like a wild Wednesday night to me, Dewey. Super to hear that you're still alive after that!

reply

That's the bad part. It wasn't wild. There of course was a party.
I knew I was going to be driving the car that night and I had ZERO to drink.
I did have it up to 130 mph. earlier that night, but that's a different story.

I did a friend a solid and drove him home. I turned into his drive, saw a squirrel, swerved
and lost control. Must of hit the gas.
The cop asked me if I'd been drinking. I said no. He said "we'll see about that".
I blew a 0.00. He was shocked. In fact I think he was disappointed I wasn't drunk!

So did your brother really go through the front of your house?

reply

No, he didn't actually drive his truck through the front of the house, or any building for that matter. The dream itself was so intense, however, that I hid under the covers for a couple hours after waking up. After that I managed to peek downstairs and observe that no damages had occurred. Twas just a dream.

Accidents can happen to anyone, including anyone who is sober and nervous.

reply

I've had those dreams too.
Still, your brother should know better. Dream or not.
Hope you gave him a proper thrashing!

Of course, sober and nervous or just young and stupid.

reply

When I have a dream I remember, I always think back to what I did before bed, or a few hours before and can usually link them up.

Well, you must have at least put up a good fight.
I mean you're still posting!

reply

[deleted]

That's a great point.
So how did you get down or are you still up there?
No worries, I'll come for you!
If the Zombies are all gone of course. ;)

reply

[deleted]

I knew there was something about you.
Even in your sleep you're on the ball.
Good to know. It at least saves me a trip to save you.

reply

Were the zombies on cellphones?

I swear we dream to give us something to do during the night when we can't get back to sleep.
You have a dream, wake up, and can't go back to sleep.
You lay there wondering WTH was that dream all about?!

I agree with the dreaming about people who are no longer around.
I've recently had many of these dreams. Every time I dream about them I have a very calm and
peaceful feeling come over me.

reply

I once dreamed that I could not fall asleep, and, when I woke up, I was exhausted. “I said to myself, ‘I am SUCH an asshole!’”

reply

That's strange because I say that to myself everyday!

reply

Dreams are your sub conscience attempting to deal with your daily problems, etc.

😎

reply

So if a people don't have daily problems they don't dream? Lucky them!

reply

Everyone has daily problems. Some are just smaller than others. If a person doesn't have problems, they'll think of one.
