What kind of TV do you have?

Anyone have one of those fancy-schmancy OLED TV's?

I just bit the bullet and bought an LG 55 Inch OLED Smart TV (2017)

I'm so done done with Samsung..I own 2 and they both have issues.

I recently moved up to a big-enough-for-me, 32-inch Vizio - a dumb one, since I have no need for a smart TV. It's an improvement from the 27" Panasonic hulk that finally died after about 20 years of flawless performance. Never had a problem with it. Well, except for how much it weighed. A real bear to move, but the sound on it was better than what the new one has.

One of my former tenants left a couple old TV's in the apartment. I can attest to how much they weigh. Karma caught up with him, though. He needed a reference from me for his new apartment and I told him hell no.

People do like to dump their stuff on other people, don't they? I confess, my anvil is still sitting in my garage because obviously I need help to take it the place that accepts these. It's not a high priority right now. One of these days...

The previous owner of my current home kindly left me all of their old paint. As if I'm going to use it for anything! And it was a lot. Oh, and a couple of cans of stain, too. 🙄

reply

It was pretty shameless in my opinion. I filled my Suburu Outback with crap that he left in the apartment and he had the audacity to ask for a reference. He also chain smoked and took advantage of my generosity by not collecting a security deposit. Never again.

Sounds like someone who was brought up believing that mom or whomever will take care of everything. Completely irresponsible.

in my small living room i have :
a 50" tv i dont watch , cos i cant get used to looking up
a 3d 100" projector which i dont use cos i have to move the seats.
...so i watch the 32"

reply

I have a big Samsung (45"?) in the Living Room, and a smaller LG (32") in my "study"/bedroom.
Got the Samsung used. I'm not super-particular so it's o-k except for one or two things.
What's particularly frustrating is I like to stay on my feet for much of the day, and the Samsung doesn't look right unless I am looking straight at it, which is a sitting position. I would need to elevate it somehow to eye level, but then what happens if you DO want to sit down and concentrate on a good show or movie?

The LG I have no problem with. Bought it new, has a nice bright picture, easy to use. That's my workhorse.

There’s actually an easy fix for your viewing problem, snepts. Do a Google search for “tilting tabletop TV stand.” You’ll find lots of choices. Warning: some of the hits this search creates are ONLY for stands that swivle, but most are for tilting. It’s like a tilting wall bracket, but for a table. Remove the table stand that came with the set, and attach the tilt stand. Now you can tilt your set up or down.

I never liked the LCD/LED technology. (The alleged LED sets were actually LCD using LED lights as the light source [LCDs use florescent lights for lighting.] OLED is actually showing a picture ON a light-emitting diode.) One reason was their limited horizontal AND vertical radius, which is what you’ve encountered.

reply

Samsung. I've never had any trouble with it.

Apropos of what, exactly?

reply

Never used it, but in the corner still in its box is a new (well, year old) 24" Samsung.

There's cable here for free, but I'm not interested enough to bother getting a wall mount that'll work, and paying someone to install it. I'd probably only watch Pitbulls and Paroles, and be annoyed at having to watch all those drugs commercials again.

reply

Lol Those chicks on Pitbulls & Paroles are righteous! Anyone advocating for animal welfare is ok in my book.
About those drug commercials, I heard its only legal in the US and New Zealand. Very strange!!

reply

I LOVE them!!! Tia really knows dogs, too. I almost always end up weeping some when I watch, but in a good way.

You're kidding, only in the US and New Zealand? Everyone else gets cut a big break from this annoyance? 😡

reply

Cat, you can put it on a table. I don’t care what the dimwit at Best Buy told you—it doesn’t HAVE to go on a wall.

We once mounted one to a ceiling, over a bed. And into the footboard of beds, with a motorized lift, to hide it in the footboard when off, then rise up into view when turned on.

reply

I know, R_K. No one needed to tell me that, Best Buy dimwit or anyone else 😀. I don't have any other available space for it to go except on the wall.

That sounds cool. It'd be nice to have the ability to hide the TV.

reply

I hope that you know that I never meant to slight you. I was only trying to help someone about whom I care.

reply

I appreciate that, R_K :)

reply

I don't like Best Buy, at all. I don't go there to buy stuff.

reply

Good choice. It’s a terrible, money-grubbing company whose very last concern is customer service.

reply

Samsung.
