StoneKeeper's Summer Game: Guess a Movie #18 (Jacob's LAdder)

So you guys like to play games? Here is an investigation game that can be time consuming but it's lots of fun. Basically, I have a movie in mind and you have to guess which one it is. For each movie you guys are going to guess, I will give a hint that CONNECTS your guess with the movie I have in mind.

Example of connections: Actor, length, genre, aspect ratio, language, country, year, director, writer in common, rating, number of votes, nominations. It can even be something like: both movies involve a girl being murdered.

- The winner can either start a new game or say "pass". In case of a pass, the OP gets to start another one.
- After 12 hints, the point goes to the OP and he gets to start another one.

Good Luck!

Hint #1: The Graduate: Leading actor won at least one Oscar in his career.
Hint #2: Fantasia 2000: Imdb rating between 7 and 8
Hint #3: Ocean's Eleven (2001): Country: USA
HInt #4: Mean Streets (1973): Writer won at least one Oscar in his career
Hint #5: Cast Away (2000): Drama genre in common
Hint #6: Titanic (1997): Released in the 90's
Hint #7: The Conversation (1974): Under 100 000 votes
HInt #8: The Rainmaker (1997): Metascore over 60
Hint #9: Dead Man Walking (1995): Tim Robbins

Stratego wins with JAcob'S LAdder by way of Nothing to lose!!!

Dead Man Walking.

reply

Holy shit that'S a huge Hint!!

reply

Malcolm X (1992)

reply

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

reply

Jacob's Ladder?

reply

Jacob's Ladder (1990)

reply

Lol three people all independently guessed Jacob's Ladder. I'm guessing that must be the one.

reply

Honestly, I didn't see those two replies until I added mine. How about we all request some sort of tie scenario?

reply

I think in these situations it goes to the first person who made the guess. That's how we decided it the first time I hosted the game, when two people independently guessed Barry Lyndon.

reply

Each of the three who guessed right could create a new thread and we could have 3 games going on at once if people are down for that!

reply

Give it to the lovely lady Stratego from Holland assuming she will play.

reply

It should be up to Stonekeeper to decide, but I think all 3 should get a turn at the same time. It would be three times as fun!

reply

Could be, but it would get messy later if the same situation repeated itself and eventually we have like ten games going at once.

Maybe there should be some sort of bonus round to decide which of the three gets to host the next game or something. I'm not sure what form that could take though.

reply

I was wondering as well what kind of a tiebreaker would be effective. It doesn't seem so fun to limit the players to squash that beef. Perhaps we all vote on a movie, or we split the prize somehow?

For instance: One player gets to choose the next movie, One player gets the point on the scoreboard, and the other player gets to run the topic for the next round. Or maybe the third winner gets to write a signature that Stonekeeper will use on every post over the next month.

I guess it's now all up in the air...

reply

I was just about to say that maybe, in these situations, the host of the current game can break the tie by saying "I'm thinking of a movie by... Stanley Kubrick (or any director)", and the first of the tied players who guesses the right one wins and gets to host the next game.

Then I scrolled down and saw that StoneKeeper thought of almost exactly that and has now commenced the tiebreaking round. Hahaha.

reply

hahaha Fred's idea about the signature was good too but I just saw it now..

That sounds all well and good, especially since we all helped narrow down the correct answer.

reply

After some thought, Here is my final verdict:

Points go to Allaby And Stratego because they both posted 24 minutes ago.

I think one game at a time is already hard enough so To decide who starts the next game here is a Break POint Question:

Which Tim Robbins movie am I thinking of?

reply

Bob Roberts?

reply

nop (hint: he'S not director)

reply

The Player?

reply

The Player (1992)

reply

Nothing to lose.

reply

You got it!!!

A classic of my youth with MArt Lawrence

Congrat Strat!

You get to start the next game

reply

What do I get for naming the correct answer while also helping to narrow it down?

I mean, you didn't even recognize me in your original post about the matter. You originally wrote:

So, even if I had guessed Nothing to Lose, there is no guarantee that you would not have backed away on awarding we with any sort of commendation for getting the right answer. Is that your decree?

reply

This is why I suggested what I did; there would be no room for inequality and for anyone to feel slighted in the scenario I suggested. Everyone would have an equal shot at both the point and hosting the next round, winner take all.

In fairness to StoneKeeper, this is the first time such a contentious tie has arisen (it happened on one of my threads, but in that case the second person willingly conceded the point to the first), so it's natural that we're kind of making this up as we go along.

reply

I agree with your proposed tiebreaker rules. To me it still seems unclear what I Stonekeeper deems for moi. As I have said before, neither of the previous answers were posted when I was adding Jacob's Ladder as well. I'm fine with not getting a point, but Stonekeeper owes me something for narrowing the question down the way that I did. We all beat him after nine hints!

reply

"neither of the previous answers were posted when I was adding Jacob's Ladder "

You posted 8 minutes after Allaby and Stratego

reply

When I looked at the three answers, two were given at the same time and one was 8 minutes later.

And that was your answer. When I declared points go to Allaby and Stratego because they both posted 24 minutes ago, it meant that you were too late to get the point.

I think it'S fair.

But has a reward for your hard work I give you the right to pick what I will right on every title Instead or after Stonekeeper'S Summer Game.

Sounds good?

reply

That sounds good. I accept these terms and look forward to many future rounds. I propose the title: "Stonekeeper's Summer Game: I Recommend THIS Mystery Movie!" Maybe it'll get the kids talking.

reply

So it shall be Stonekeeper's Summer Game: I recommend THIS Mystery Movie #19

Is that correct?

reply

Yes. Make it so.

reply

Yeah!

Seems we've still got to work on the rules a bit.

reply

The first to answer wins. YOu and Allaby answered within the same minute. Hence the breakpoint.

Done

reply

So how does the tie break round work to decide who's next? Can anyone participate?

reply

nop, it was just you and allaby, if possible (out of respect) wait for the other one to guess before guessing in a breakpoint but if it takes hours it might suck

Wont happen too often I hope

reply

Ah, so preferably one guess at a time for both winners.

reply

On Fred'S request make the next title: Stonekeeper's Summer Game: I recommend THIS Mystery Movie #19

reply

congratulations. well done.

reply

Thanks, Mitch. Now join my thread and take a guess. Hint: it's NOT The Room!

reply

If I may interject, I was thinking that Stratego may not even be online at the moment, so it would be only fair to wait for her. Or, perhaps, let Allaby have his guess and then allow the question to hang in the air until she comes back. Each of the tied players can only make one guess until the other player has made theirs, and if both players have guessed wrong, then they each get one more guess, and so on and so forth. I think that would be the best way to handle the tie-breaking round.

Edit:
Never mind, she's here lol. But I still think this would be a good way to manage a tie-breaking round.

reply

hahaha so many thing happening at pnce!. look up

reply

Or since they're both getting a point apiece, I might be able to host the next round?

Again, my guess was posted at the approximately same time at your post about Stratego, who posted within seconds of you. What's that policy for that?

reply

Personally I think it would have been best to wait and allocate the point to whomever won the tie-breaking round, and then had all three of you participate in it, with the winner taking both the point and the next game. That's what I probably would have done.

reply

When I looked it showed up like they posted at the exact same time (Allaby and Stratego)

This is obviously a question of who answers first.

If you guess a movie and I guess the same movie 10 minutes after and we learn it was the winning movie, points goes to you.
