Never chitterlings...moms kosher...and you don't eat chitterlings unless yo mamma make em๐Ÿ˜‰ ate snoots once...don't be snooty๐Ÿ˜‚catfish...cornbread...fried chicken...necks and backs you snobs๐Ÿ‘

Gourmet fair made by honest folk...only allotted the scraps and cast offs from the master...now being recognized for its culinary brilliance...and it's Delicious...and good for the soul๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

reply

Dutch split pea soup.

reply

Although not southern African American cuisine...I does sound very tastey...and somehow follows traditional southern preparation...so...I kinda gotta give ya that one๐Ÿ‘ I saw two recipes...one with sausage...the other with ham hock. I would prefer the ham. Is Dutch sausage spicy? No funny business! Spicy would possibly lend itself well to a slightly cajon flair...and that would be interesting!

reply

Obviously we don't have real soul food over here in Europe. Although I certainly don't mind KFC's fried chicken.

No, the sausage is not spicy, it has a strong smoked flavour. A real Dutch pea soup has sausage AND cuts of pork.

My mother was famous for her lamb shank soup with vegetables and pearl barley, apple and rhubarb pie, iced sponge cake with whipped cream in the middle. Oh the days of good old fashioned home cooking !

reply

With a line up like that? Yo momma wouldn't be famous...she'd be a LEGEND! Ain't had apple rhubarb
Since I was seven...damn!was that real whipped cream...forgive me...of course it was! Seems your mother was/is a class act...at least come supper time๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘
Thanks for the post!

reply

My mother was a piece of work, both good parts and bad. She used to grow the rhubarb herself and keep chickens in the old days. I remember the ice man coming to put a block of ice in the cooler when I was little. No electric refrigerator then ! And he used to give us kids chips of ice to eat when it was hot.

reply

Simpler times...probably better! Thanks for sharing! Now I'm hungry๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘

reply

I have a bunch of mustard greens growing this season! I like to saute the hell outta them with olive oil, garlic and tomatoes.

reply

Sounds really good๐Ÿ‘ those who are not familiar with greens...know not what they miss! Got a big garden?

reply

I'm keeping it simple this year. Lots of root vegetables, greens, tomato plants and autoflowers.

reply

First auto crop?...got loads of interst in her! You in the states?

reply

Finally in a legal state. I'm trying autos because mold can be an issue later in the season.

reply

Especially out of doors. Inside I have much more control...but nothing beats sunshine!
Let me know how voluptuous those ladies get!

reply

Will do.

reply

Pork ribs, but that's all.

Probably missing out on a lot of things. A lot of people rave about Facebook, but me....nah

You just compared black eyed peas cornbread and greens to facebook...How dare you SIR!!!๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

LMAO over here, feet. Good one. That was audacious of me, wasn't it?

BTW, don't even get me started on Twitter. Folks who are on Facebook and Twitter have too much time on their hands, imho.

Gotta say...totally agree! When I did my video...many told me I should join one of both of those sites to increase visibility. Not worth it in my book! My vids are a hobby...fun! Those places kill fun! Nope...satisfied with my small audience here๐Ÿ‘ if my stuff would catch on naturally...GREAT! If it stays a tolerable nuisance here...EVEN BETTER!!!๐Ÿ˜‚

reply

Ribs, okra, sweet potato pie, corn bread.

reply

mmm. ribs.

reply

How the he'll did I forget sweet potato pie???? Can good call...okra...not my thing...but plenty other goodies๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

reply

Yup...but then again...damn near any part of mr piggy!

reply

I'm a huge fan of soul food! Pinto beans, cornbread, fried taters, fried chicken (tenders are the best) little Hoppin' John on the side, some mac and cheese and last but not least..pecan pie! :D

To be fair, I'm a huge fan of all food but I'm from the South so I've grown up eating this kind of food.

reply

OHHH...hoppin john!!! There's a term that takes me back๐Ÿ‘ damn! Pecan pie..OMFG!!!

reply

Right? I want all of this right now with a huge slice of pecan pie and some ice cream.

reply

LOL! This brother grew up in an Italian-Jewish neighborhood!

I wouldn't eat chitlin's anymore than I would eat suffrito. Fortunately, my dad was not particularly fond of them either although my grandparents were. Not sure what was more disgusting; intestines (chitterlings) or heart/lung stew (soffrito). My aunt would always cook up a mess of various greens that I tolerated, but you haven't lived until you get a load of the stench that chitlins make when they're cooking. I'm gagging while I type this.

Anyway, southern fried chicken was always a favorite of mine and always will be.

reply

Except for fried chicken, cornbread, ribs, and red beans and rice, I haven't had much soul food :(

Oh wait, once I had fried okra. I guess that counts. I expect it's because I've never lived anywhere near the south.

I am going to try making mustard greens soon! They sound delicious.

reply

You've had the staples๐Ÿ‘ and you're willing to try more๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘mustard greens won't disappoint๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

reply

Definitely willing to try more! Can't wait for the mustard greens. What's your favourite way of cooking them?

reply

Usually sautee some onion pork garlic salt pepper olive oil...add an ounce or so of stock...I like pork...others chicken or vegetarian... And bout a pound of greens...done when greens begin to wilt๐Ÿ‘

reply

Mmm, sounds delicious to me, and easy to make! I've got everything except the greens. Next grocery store trip I'm buying them, along with the smoked oysters MissMargo and I were talking about ๐Ÿ‘
