Soul food...any fans?

Must say...since childhood...fuckin eh I am! Greens...collard mustard even turnip! Black eyed peas...red beans and rice๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘ PORK!!! Ribs...butt roast...rump roast...shanks...OMFG! Never chitterlings...moms kosher...and you don't eat chitterlings unless yo mamma make em๐Ÿ˜‰ ate snoots once...don't be snooty๐Ÿ˜‚catfish...cornbread...fried chicken...necks and backs you snobs๐Ÿ‘

Gourmet fair made by honest folk...only allotted the scraps and cast offs from the master...now being recognized for its culinary brilliance...and it's Delicious...and good for the soul๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

reply

Its amazing and filling...
And as you say, its based upon what the servants were left over after butchering and serving was done

Oddly enough, minus the frying that goes into some Soul Foods its a pretty nutricious menu
Although to be honest i like a lot of it fried

Nice thread D๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ˜‰
We should do one like this for different cuisines as well...

reply

Watched an interesting show...maybe anthony bordaine(sp?) restraunt owners were tracking down the ancestors of freed servants ( much kinder word than slave...thanks๐Ÿ‘) to rummage in their gardens for precivil war cultivars...very interesting...and yes...extremely nutritious!!! Before the frying and ham hocks and bacon๐Ÿ˜‰

I do like food! Maybe I will๐Ÿ‘

reply

Hard name to spell...i looked it up-
Bourdain (man do i suck at spelling French names lol)
Sounds like a very interesting show
I love the history stuff

Yes, lots of avenues to explore here...Many cuisines to mention and discuss and it could be great fun for the MC crowd

Problem is im on a diet and you have made me very hungry lolol๐Ÿ˜ก

I will go to bed dreaming of Latin American, Persian and Greek food very soon!
I should gain 5 lbs by the morning
Thx a lot๐Ÿ˜

reply

You and me both! I've opted for long late night power walks...I look like a fucking moron...but four miles in an hour!!

reply

Nice!
Keep it up man

I find periodic fasting (24-36 hours 2-3 times a month) is useful as well...seems the body responds by eating up all of the excess weight
Also, being very hungry keeps me angry and sharp at work...good to be the angriest asshole in The Bronx!

The walking is a great idea...night time is perfect because everything is so mysterious and interesting in the dark
Its just as lovely as the Daytime!

Lets BOTH get very fit this summer Amigo

reply

That's the plan my man๐Ÿ‘ gotta go welcome mod5 back now!

reply

Where did you see that show? Sounds like something I'd very much enjoy seeing.

Hoping you're going to say Netflix!

reply

I'm pretty sure it's called Anthony Bourdain...parts unknown. It's on CNN but I think Netflix also...seemed real good...made me want to eat and drink a lot!!!

reply

Thanks, Imma look for it on Netflix! I love history, and combined with food, that's a ๐Ÿ‘ combo.

Ever heard the expression "living high on the hog"? Yep...

BBQ's roots date back to the old South where the slaves and other poor discovered that certain virtually inedible cuts of meat become moist and tender when cooked/smoked at low temps for many hours. I cook pork shoulder at 210 for 8 hours to make pulled pork.

reply

Nothing beats a Memphis style, pulled pork, bbq burger/sandwich.

reply

I was soooo disappointed when I had to drive through Memphis and couldn't stop for some BBQ and blues.

reply

I love my three (b)s: beer, blues and bbq. Yeah, you really missed out.

reply

I know, but it couldn't be helped. Someday ...

reply

In the meantime, you can create your own; I do.

reply

Hmm, I could do, couldn't I? Don't have a grill here (yet), but could Google a good Memphis BBQ recipe, and put on some blues!
