Who is known for playing good characters and rarely plays a villain? Tom Hanks comes to mind for me.

Small world! I was just about to mention the Duke. I'm surprised hownos didn't mention him earlier as he's a huge fan of the actor. Maybe it would have been too obvious. This doesn't really count but there was a comedy sketch on an episode of Rowan and Martin's Laugh-in where Wayne is playing a typical U.S. Army frontier commanding officer. His fort comes under an Indian raid attack, upon being relayed of the oncoming assault, being asked by his subordinate what to next, he takes off his officer's hat and puts on an Indian headdress revealing an act of betrayal. That was not expected!
